This is my bad weather smoking room. It's really a greenhouse I'm building for my wife - started life as two chicken coops I built her that I moved to the garden, attached together to make one shed and added the glazing from surplus window sash. Next I will modify the rear roof line to form a saltbox style and eliminate any remaining vestiges of the chicken coop days......
Its a nice place to sit and smoke during the daytime when the sun is shining and temps are 25 and above. It also serves me well during the good weather when its raining. Nothing fancy, just good ol' rustic livin'.

I worked in the trades for a number of years doing historical restoration, timber-framing, masonry and cabinet work, even had a full blown shop at one time (sigh). I had a number of good sources for millwork. These particular sash came from a liquidator who literally had thousands and thousands of sash, doors, windows and mouldings that they would buy in lots from manufacturers who had surplus inventory. Used to be able to find all kinds of great stuff cheap - I think I paid $4 a piece for these windows and they were new - doesn't get better than that. I used the manufactured millwork for modern buildings, but made doors and windows for historical jobs that had to match and look authentic.
I traded in my shop for a desk, but I miss having a shop to go to. Maybe someday....... sure do miss working with wood.

I kinda figured you were in some type of trades with having the ability to come across these sashes...

I would miss it to much and have always stayed with my trades profession and kept learning even while being in the military... having my shop is one of the greatest gifts I have.... doctors have told me I wouldn't be able to maintian back in that type of career like I used to... but I think I can prove them wrong and have strived to do so... I don't work for any contractors as of right now... but I haven't ruled it out for the future...

your project and smoking area looks great and one day I hope to get one of these built for Mrs. Hog.. but we've got to get out in the country first....

Hog - I hear you bro'. Some days it's like someone cut off part of me when I wish I had a shop to get lost in again. It was a special place where things sprang to life under your own hands.
I heard about your recent troubles, It's nice living out in the country. My wife and I have been restoring an antique Bowed Roof Cape for a long time. It was actually condemned when we bought it and took us six years of nights and weekends before we could occupy PART of it. Of course, I had to do everything historically correct..... It's been a long process and slowed to a crawl once we started a family, but the kids a growing up and heading off to school, so we're hoping to get at it again soon. At least that way I get to dust off the tools......

Send me your snailer and I'll see if I can pack up a couple of 'gars in sawdust for ya, as a way of saying hello.
