This is an old pic (August 2004) of my dad (right) and myself (left) sitting on my back porch enjoying a Cohiba Siglo IV. Dad isn't much of a cigar smoker, or so he wasn't before I got him started. I am working on putting a package together for him this month.

He made the drive from Illinois to Maryland to drop in and spend some time with me, the wife and kids. We had a great time!

Great pic, moments like this with your father will live forever. Glad you caught it on film.

But the next time you better give HIM the "comfy" chair...lol.

Bud, after the pic was taken I took a look at the digi cam and thought the same thing, LOL. I think he's planning on coming back to Ft. Meade for a visit this month. We now smoke in the garage, so he can have the comfortable couch.

Cool pic.

Your Dad looks a lot like Deriffe.

I lived on Ft Meade for a year. If you like seafood you have to go to the Navy reserve pier and do some crabbing. You can also catch rockfish(stripers) off th epier with Rapalas and other bass lures. Most days I was there alone. they have camping and cabins for rent.

Great picture, and very refreshing. My daughter turns 13 in a couple months. I hope the same for us in the future. At the present, it seems impossible. My father and i are as close as you two seem. I just hope i can get there with my daughter. You ever feel like you just dont cut it as a parent... no matter how smart.. how hard i try, i dont think i will ever be able to measure up to my dad. He did something right.. he is the greatest man in the world in my eyes. Hopefully i can be that for my little girl some day. she's 13.. hopefully she will come around

great pic...it is what cigar smoking is all about. Spending an hour or so with someone close to you enjoying one of life's little pleasures.

a friend once said that his daughter was walkin around one day at the age of 13 and her brain fell out. He went on to say that fortunately God found the brain and put it in His pocket... and gave it back to her on her 21st birthday. My own experience with my daughter was similar. At about thirteen I went from "Sweet Daddy" to "the evil tyrant; and "lame" to boot". Today I have a wonderful daughter who is a successful swim coach, wife and mother. Stand your ground and don't compromise your faith or the major issues, but let her know that you love her and are there for her... good chance she'll see that and come around as she grows!

Bassdude, I grew up in Swansea, Illinois. That is still where my dad resides. Just outside of Belleville, Illinois. 20 minutes East of St. Louis, Missourri.

Nice to see you. Cherish the moment. Many here have never had a chance to have a cigar with their dad....let alone become a bad influence on him...LOL.

He looks like a young guy (around my age) so you'll have a lot of chances to make time to get together.

I think my old man is gonna make the trip with his girlfriend for Valentine's Day. He has been hounding me to make some beef jerkey for him. I have about 3 pounds made up, but I think I'll hold on to it and hand him the jerky, a humidor, and some cigars if he makes the trip. Hell, it's a 13 hour drive, he will deserve if if he makes the drive.

I know Swansea quite well. Grew up in Granite and now live in St Jacob. Next time your home give a yell and we will get the local crowd together for a herf.

Hmmm Deriffe is working in Faairview now, coincidence??

Bassdude, I am looking to take some leave in June and make the trip. Gonna try and get the family over there for at least a week or two. I will be sure to post here if it still works out.

It's great when you can share moments like that with your dad.
Got my dad smoking cigars once in a while then my mom made him quit (she HATES cigars) 🙂 Now he smokes only when we play a round of golf together.

Thanks for sharing this pic stlblues.
