Hello, let me begin by saying thank you, I have been reading your posts for some time and am truly amazed by the knowledge in these forums. Until now I have been able to answer all of my newbie questions threw the search function.

So now I call on your learned advice! I recently received two five packs of PSD#4 from two different sources and as you can see, they don’t look alike. One is clearly longer than the other as well as two different shades of wrapper. There is even a slight difference in the labels. Can this be explained or have I fallen victim to dare I say a shipment of “Fakes”? If indeed one package are fakes which one. Can anyone help?

Well some years the wrappers are a little darker than others, and sometimes the printing on the bands are a little off. But all PSD# 4's are 4 7/8 inches long.

The top one looks pretty good, but not sure on the bottom one.

They should measure 4 7/8" pretty much on the button.

Top looks good... bottom one is a liitle "off".

BUT, I have gotten some that show the same weirdness, in trades and from suppliers, and they smoked fine, so, ya never know.

Only one surefire way to tell. Smoke them and compare.

Since the Partagas series D and Monte Cristo #2 are my favorite smokes I would have to say the top one with the red band looks good but the bottom one looks fake. Smell them both and if there is a difference that is the true test (Series D remind me of the years I spent cleaning up my horses corals) and of course smoking them .

I tell you what send me your snailer and as a welcome gift to the site I will send you a real one and then you can compare, its too hard to tell from a picture.

Top one is probably good the bottom is fake. I have had a couple of the darker and longer ones that are going around. The ones I've had are still very good.....just not a psd4. Smoke it and see.

what sli said. These are definitely going around I received 2 as trades and have smoked one. I was quite impressed with the flavor but the burn was off the first half. Definitely Cuban backy.

don't despair.

smoke them both as though they were the real thing and you are going to be pleased.

smoke them both as though one was a fake and you will be sure to think they are both fakes.

take off the bands, cut the ones that are slightly longer. put them both to sleep in your humidor for a month or so and then enjoy them both.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, I suspected that the bottom was a fake. I received them a few months ago and tried my first one the other night, and I was very disappointed. It didn’t smoke at all like the other ones that I received (top) in fact I think it’s safe to say I had my first plug! When I finally got a bit of smoke out it was bitter and on further analysis the stick seamed to be filled with short filler and a bunch of stems. Oh well liver and learn I guess! Any one interested in a four pack??? Just kidding… I’ll dispose of them properly. LOL

Are the caps the same? I can't tell from the pic. If they are, then at least if one is a fake, it's probably a Cuban fake. Not one of the shi*ty Mexican fakes I was burned by in Tijuana. And if one of those is a fake it's probably the bottom one. But there can be variations from batch to batch, so don't jump to conclusions. Why don't you check out the Counterfeit Gallery at CA?

And you are correct a fake is not necessarily a bad cigar.

I hate to be the one who is upfront here, but that is not a genuine stainless steel ruler.

I checked the ones I have and they are 4 7/8th's".
