Awsome dogs.. They sure can be a handful though. My male went 195 lbs
Unfortunately I just had to put my male to sleep last week, that damm cancer. I had him a little over 10 years, and it was like chopping out a huge part of me when I had to do that.

There is just something intimidating about a dog that can look over a 6 ft privacy fence.. That is unless you really know them.They are big **** cats 99% of the time ,none of mine were ever really aggresive, but all were very protective
I had 4 danes at one time all together in the house at the same time. A circus would be an understatement. I got wise and found good homes for 2 of the girls.
Tazz was my 1st Dane and I was hooked. I have 1 female yet, that is just about 10 years old, so I know her time is getting limited too.I have no doubt that I will always have a Dane in my life if I can. They are just awsome dogs

Thanks Hippy, This is my second dane, He's 7 months old and weighs 130 pounds. I lost my older Dane last year to bloat. They are big babies. All mine want to do is sit in your lap!!!

Great dogs! There only down fall is a short life span. Do you put his food in one of those trays that hold the bowl up high. Much healthier for large dogs.

He should cut back on his gars! That will help too! LOL!

Bloat, been there done that. I managed to pull mine thru, caught it real early, a trip the the emergency vet and $1400 later he was back to his own self. This was about 9 months after another emergency vet visit which tuned out to be a big (sofball size)(non cancerous) tumor on his spleen that ruptured.This one was a little more pricy $2500.
I found out that year that big dogs can get real pricey when it comes to Vet bills
7 months he is just getting into his "meathead" stage.I was told by a Dane breeder if you can survive the 1st 2 yrs with a Dane you will have a good dog. I found that out to be very true. They seem to stay "puppies" for alot longer that other dogs.
As somebody else said, the only downside is their short life span. I think between 7 and 8 years is about average, so I have always enjoyed them while I have them. You can always get another one, but you can never replace the time you had with the previous one. they are just like people all have their own personalities.
