notice that the the first 5 all have a black rim on the bottom of the main band, while the anejo is white and the regular ones are green. the different combinations of ribbons on the foot, use of cedar and cigar shape dictate which line it belongs to. here's a summary from another post.

black bottoned main bands:
figurado = hemi
black ribbon bottom with cedar= SG
otherwise Don Carlos

green bottomed band = regular

white bottomed band with cedar = anejo

Obviously there are tons of "special" fuentes I'm omitting, but hopefully this helps...

Chris, I have a bunch of sharks with the cedar wrap and a bunch without. Anything to that or is it just a different production year?

One point though, I don't think your anejo is the #77 shark. The shark is box pressed and is the only anejo that doesn't come cedar wrapped. That said, I can't remember which one you do have there (can't keep the crazy number scheme straight in my head - lol).

I think it's a 4+ yr old shark as far as I know. It was gifted from Slim 2 years ago so I'm not 100%.

Us FOGs gotta check in once in a while and see if Rick is still stirring the pot and everyone else is whining about it... 🙂

Añejo (which means "aged, refined" in Spanish) cigars were originally released in December 2000 due to Fuente being skittish about whether enough Opus X tobacco would be available after the hurricane hit their farm in 1998. Añejos have a blend of Opus X, Don Carlos, and Hemingway filler, with Connecticut broadleaf maduro wrappers that are cured in cognac barrels after they've been aged. The original release Añejos have no cedar around them, and have wrappers that were aged in for 7 years (subsequent releases have the wrappers aged for varying time, generally about 3 years, and are all wrapped in cedar). Añejo No.77s (aka, "Sharks") are the exception; they were originally released in early 2001, and no release of the Sharks is wrapped in cedar. Contrary to popular belief, all releases of the Añejos have their tobacco aged/cured in cognac barrels for only 6-8 months... the bulk of the aging time is done in tightly packed bales.

From my understanding, the green ribbon is the Chateau Fuente line, not the regular. The Chateau is the only Fuente with a Conn. Wrapper and the regular line is African Cameroon.

when I say regular I mean their Gran Reserva line, it's their lowest line aside from seconds. The double Chateau pictured above (number 7) is part of the gran reserva line along with number 8 which is a spanish lonsdale. I don't give them much credit because I don't care for the gran reserva line, but I'm a sucker for DCs, SGs and Anejos...
