Moss to be traded to Oakland, agent confirms

Mark Craig, Star Tribune

February 24, 2005 MOSS0224OL

The Vikings and Oakland Raiders have agreed to a trade that will send Vikings receiver Randy Moss to the Raiders in exchange for the seventh overall pick in this year's draft, linebacker Napoleon Harris and a low-round draft pick this year, a person with knowledge of the situation said Wednesday.

"It's sort of a bittersweet moment for Randy," said his agent, Dante DiTrapano. "He had seven years in Minnesota, and he loved being a Viking. But, at the same time, this gives him a better chance to win a Super Bowl. The Oakland Raiders have vowed to use Randy like he has been used the past seven years, and that's throw the ball deep."

NFL trades can't become official until March 2. Because of that, the Vikings aren't able to comment on Moss' status.

"We've had discussions with the Raiders, but we have nothing to say about it," said Rob Brzezinski, Vikings vice president of football operations. "That's all we can say."

Moss has been rumored to be on the trading block since the end of a injury-plagued and controversial-filled 2004 season. Brzezinski said the Vikings did not shop Moss, and that the Raiders contacted them recently to initiate trade talks.

If it is true then Kewl. Vikes need defense. A new linebacker, two first rounders this year, their own and the Raiders, cap relief. Sounds good to this Viking fan.

He'll be a waiste of talent in Oakland

Beat: The Vikes got screwed.

Wonder if Fowler is out now? Seems like trading away one of the star players in the middle of a deal would sour things.

My question is this: Okay, he's going to Oakland... who's gonna get him the ball? Kerry Collins? HA!

I aint believin a word of it until March 2nd.

But youd think that would be the case. Fowler seems like an iffy guy. To bad cuz Red is a freakazoid.

Beat: March 2 - agreed.

I never liked the Fowler situation. I've always thought the Vikes should stay downtown, and I think Taylor is the best choice because he has an interest in keeping them down there.

On the Raiders website there is no mention of it yet...

I dont like Moss as a person, but as a Raider fan I want talent. He's got that. If Gannon can get healthy and show the talent he had before last season he will get Moss the ball. Also our offensive line will need to be good.

That's a big if though at 39 yrs old. We will see!

As a Vikings fan, living in MN this is a very good thing for us. We REALLY need the defence, and a first round (7th overall pick) is a nice thing to have. A guy like Randy is poison on a team and I have no trouble saying goodbye. Fowler has no say in this so my thought is Red just wanted to save himself a cool 20 Mil and sold him off under the radar. He may not have gotten the best deal but I would have given him up for nothing just to free up some ching for other pick-ups. Good luck in Oakland, he's got nothing to work with there.

Moss may be poison on any team but the Raiders. What other team has taken as many misfits, has beens or troublemakers and turned their careers around for the better....none...

Last year, I decided that I really didn't care that much about football anymore, or basketball for that matter, but I couldn't help looking in on the raiders every once in awhile....

This is just another in a long string of bad decisions from the Raiders organization. They may have a history of turning around bad seeds, but they also have a history of spurring them on to further heights of bad seediness (marinovich, janikowski, Woodson, Robbins, Darrell Russel, Romanowski and this is off the top of my head). Moss is a good for nothing thug, the raiders continue to reward laziness, negative attitudes, and lawlessness because the guy is tall, can run fast and jump high.

Bring on baseball!!!!
