This is my Alvey reel and Alvey rod (thanks andy) that I will be using for pike and carp this season.

The reel is about 5 inches across. The rod is 10 and 1/2 feet long. Very stout (for 1-3 oz lures), yet has some flex towards the tip. Tried casting with it out on the street in front of my house and was able to cast about 300 feet (with only a 3/4 oz weight). Can't wait for the lakes to open up so I can commence to fishing.

Thats not one you can practice in the back yard with. You would end up in the next town. Nice. At least now I know what an "elvey" is.

We need to get together sometime and have a fishing herf. I'll bring my Bekler and some Frog Morton.
