What kind of car is it? Looks a little like an old dodge dart.

It's a 64 Ford Thunderbolt. Not many made, most offered to race teams, and dispite Mac's temporary lack of working brain cells, held it's own with any of them. The Galaxie was too big and heavey to keep up with it's class rivals so they stuck a big motor, or rather, built a special bodied Fairlane around Fords big block to take it's place.

Very rare car..427 Ford Goodness.. 4.58:1 gears with the automatic.. rated at 425HP and 485lbs of torque but realistically around 500bhp. Only 100 built in '64 and 2 in '65 and one Pre-production in '63. These cars were street legal but not really street driveable.. too much power. Very, very rare

What do you mean my lack of working brain cells?

If you're referring to TG's post, um... HE wrote that, not me.

I am not a professional old car picker outer, so it looked like a dodge dart to me.

In thsat case I'll just hit myself in the face with the back end of a rusty claw hammer. Will that be sufficient sir?

For the nascar fans who remember this was the car Smoky Eunich develpoed. The car was so fast and ahead of it's time I think nascar banned it after a couple of years.

1964 Thunderbolt 427 Lightweight Factory Race car Badass!

The 2 inner headlights were replaced with mess and 2 huge hoses for air induction.

I had a 65 Fairlane and had planned to clone it into a 65 T-bolt but due to financial situation had to sell it recently.I miss that car, I had it for 24 years.

Great picture.

These have gone for well over $200K in recent auctions depending on their race provenance. IIRC they kicked ass at the drags and could go around 10 seconds right out of the factory box.

Looks like a blend of a Falcon and a Galaxy 500. I had a black Galaxy 500 until the Sheriffs son wrecked it..

The only car I really regret giving up was my '64 Galaxie 500 XL. It was my uncles and he gave it to me when he got a new car. It was the car we drove when we moved back from Seattle. My bride, 8 months pregnant with our first baby, rode the whole way lounging in that huge, comfy back seat. I ended up selling it and used the money to buy her a dog.............which was killed by a car when it got out of the house. Sounds like a Mickey Newbury song.
