When deciding to hike in Arizona, do what I did:

-Wait until it is 80 degrees.

-No sunscreen.

-No water.

-Don't look at the sign at the beginning of the four trails, and inadvertantly start out on the advanced section.

As the lungs were screaming for oxygen, I took this photo. This is also tghe place where a veteran hiker said "You are half way there."

That was it for me.2732953.JPG

I've climbed it at over a 100 degrees!

When did they put fences up? I remember railings but not fences. The rocks are loose and slippery and they want everyone to stay on the trail at all times, I guess.

But I was 14 and didn't care about the heat. And I used to climb Squaw Peak...excuse me, Piestewa Peak Mountain every weekend when I was 14-15. lol.

I met my future wife on that trail. Four months later I asked her to marry me there and two months after that we were married on the summit.

Had a hell of a time finding a parson who would climb the mtn to do the ceramony at the top. LOL

BTW the fence is there in that one 200 yard section to keep the hikers from leaving the trail and wandering onto private land. Camelback is surrounded by million dollar + homes.

Naming the Peak after Piestewa, a fallen marine, is better.

A lot of kids look up to her.....change isn't always bad.

Nothing against Lori Piestewa but the way it way renamed by our politically correct ex-governor was totally wrong.

It will always be Squaw Peak to me.
