Tomorrow night, April 1, some of us will be playing poker at POKERROOM.com. I will attempt to clarify how this works.
The name of the room will be mosmancbid. I will create it between 7pm (CST) and 7:30. I’ve found that starting it earlier helps give folks plenty of time to find it.
The password will be FOTL. Since table nicks don’t always match CBID nicks, it’s the easiest way to identify you as a FOTL. You may also be asked your CBID nick to verify we don’t have any stragglers that don’t belong there.
I will keep track of who played. After the game is over, or early Saturday morning, I’ll post the nick of everybody involved. I’ll also post the winner, the second place finisher and third place finisher.
The game starts at 8pm (CST) sharp. Anybody coming in late will need to set their chip count to the lowest amount at the table. However, since it would be totally ridiculous to start with $1, the lowest amount you must set your chip count to is $371. At a table where somebody will already be above $1000, that’s not very much. At 9pm I will lock the table.
The ante is five premium sticks. You may send more if you so choose. All winnings are sent to the first place finisher. In return, the winner will send 20% of his winnings to the second place finisher. The second place finisher does not send sticks. With a full table that would equal eight paying losers X five sticks each for 40 sticks. The second place man would get eight sticks out of that stash. Not bad for one nights work. Winners will soon realize that most folks send more than five sticks.
Sitting out a few hands is standard practice. I do it whenever I gotta get more coffee, dig out a new stick, kiss the wife good-bye, pee, and keep from going on tilt or whatever. We’ve had children get sick, fires at the neighbors, disconnections, my anger level skyrocketing when some lucky sucker calls $100 raise pre-flop with an 8-3 offsuit and hits a straight to beat a pair of kings, and various other incidents. Sitting out too many hands in a row isn’t fair to those who want your chips. I’m not going to sit around and count your hands you missed; I’ll be too busy trying to take your fine cigars. I’m not going to boot anybody either. We’re all humans and understand that SHAT HAPPENS. Remember that everybody there are good peeps.
However, as a general rule, here is how we have handled this in the past. If you leave early in the game or a problem arises, it is up to the winner to either show mercy or drop the hammer. After all, it’s their smokes you are dealing with. Around this board, mercy tends to be the rule. If this occurs later in the game you will almost assuredly be shown mercy due to the fact that you were doing at least minimally well to still remain. You cannot win in this manner. You must be around to finish the game to be the winner. ‘Tis only fair, we did come to play poker. As well, most of these decisions are dealt with democratically.
If you have trouble finding the table it is because POKERROOM has two servers that are not synched. Sometimes simply restarting the program and logging on a few different times will solve this. However, a couple of times I have had to reboot as well and this has always solved the problem. We know POKERROOM isn’t the greatest but it is the best we have currently. I apologize for any inconvenience.
