April 13, 2005.

7:45 am

Saw this bird on top of a hill. Went around the hill to see where he went. Couldn't see him, so I walked up to a clump of short scrub brush. Suddenly, a hen jumped almost from under my feet, just like a pheasant. One after another, hens were jumping up and flying everywhere. Suddenly this brute jumps up about 20 yards away and starts flying. He didn't fly to far. Got him in the air with a turkey choke.

Will be roasted with portabello mushroom and port wine stuffing on Sunday.

I need to clear the air for robert1: my hands are clipping and lighting a RyJ EL robusto!

Okay, they are actually holding the tail open, they don't just grow that way, you know.

I have to say that I am starting to like turky hunting a lot. Plus our season opens early in April, so it gives me something to do after pheasant season is over and before varmint season really gets going.
