whao. Hell of a setup. Do you have any information on what this set up is for or some of the products, or even the reason for this type of setup?

I'd reckon the big round column in back are the subs. Isometric boxes it appears.

A friend of a friend was stationed in Japan for a while, and took orders for what was then top of the line stereo gear. We had it all set up in the living room like that, and the sound was awesome. You could clearly hear the plasticy little sound of the pick hitting the guitar strings on the acoustic songs--and dead silence in between tracks.

That's a dept. store in Japan. These people are nuts about music. You can still buy turntables and tubes at most stores.

They have these guys that come into your house and for a couple hundred bucks will set up little computer gadgets all over the place, or just one where you intend to sit most of the time. They will then "Ping" your house with soundwaves and verify the accoustics of the place.

What you finally end up with is an accoustic map of your music room, and the proper speakers in the proper locations to give you perfect sound. I'm sure they do it in the states too, but here you can find these guys all over in every town.

Music is taken very seriously here.

Worked at a conference center as a sound tech for four summers that had a nice auditorium that seated 4,200. We paid $42,000 to have accousitcal mapping done.

After the CAD layout was done with each driver...there was less than a 3 db variance from any two seats in the house...and it was a L-C-R setup (Like stereo...but with 3 originating sources). That was a cherry system...nothing like moving your fingers over a fader that controls 1.5 mill worth of stereo equipment.

Felt like He-Man..."I have the POWWWWWWWWWER!!!!!!!!!!"

The horns on both sides are actually made here in the good ol USA by a company named Avantgarde-USA. The huge metal center speakers are the subwoofer horns also by Avantgarde. They are out of the Atlanta area. You are looking at about $50k in speakers alone. Sorry, can't tell what the electronics are. You will possibly be comforted to know that the best sounding hi-end audio gear is still made here. Our manufacturers are still ahead of the world in amplifier and preamp circuit designs. The Japanese and Dutch do the most damage with CD transports and chasis etc..As with the rest of the world's industry China is the lurking giant. I have seen and heard some speakers and electronics from there recently that look and sound very very good. What will make them so attractive is the price (naturally). Their products are typically 25-30% lower retail. The hobby of high end audio is truly a world wide market. If you are interested here is the link to follow about the speakers. Great stuff by the way.
