Wife just left for 2 weeks in Europe.... so it's time to play hop scotch!!!

From left to right (front)...

Glenlivet Nadurra, Yamizake 12, Balvenie Single Barrel, Royal Lochnagar 12, Bunnahabhain 12

Back: Glenlivet 12, Glen Moray 12, Glenmorangie Burgundy Wood, Glenmorangie Sonnalta PX, Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, Glenmorangie La Santa, Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or, Macallan 18 (1978), Macallan 12, Macallan Fine Oak, Macallan 25 Anniversary Malt, Laphroaig 10, Laphraoig 15, Compass Box The Peat Monster, Clynelish 12, Balvenie Doublewood, Aardbeg Uigeadail...and the Lagavulin 16 is in the bar...

I already froze the distilled water ice cubes and have a nice line-up of Tats, Viajes and CC smokes to help me sample each of these over the next few days...

Stop by for a splash.... and a Tat.

And if you don't like single malt Scotch, I can pour you Johnny Walker Black or Gold... and my rum and bourbon arsenals are equally robust.....2859748.jpg

Very nice indeed, Tom! I'm getting more and more into Scotch these days--I wish I lived near you so I learn from a seasoned connoisseur.

But I have to rebuke you for not stalking any Glennfiddich! What's up with that? I've only had the 12 Year, but that's my favorite single malt thus far.

^ Bastid......I was gonna say send me the Mac 18 after he gets good and drunk off of sampling all the others....LOL!

What??

If I was being greedy, I woulda asked for the Mac 25!! 😉

Sounds like you've got a helluva weekend ahead of you skip. Mix in some golf and you might as well be on staycation!

^ BTW, I'm surprised by how many single malt whiskey's they have here in Japan! There is a whole shelf at the big liquor store off base. I can't wait to try some and see how they compare to Scotch.

Found the following review for the Peat Monster.... wondering if this guy is actually serious....

Tasting Notes by Dr Whisky

Cigarette smoking through a meal of scrambled eggs, scallops, and strawberry cheescake. Pears, a bag of marijuana, cinnamon.

Sea salt, kelp, lemon cheesecake, a cloud of peat, peaches or nectarines, firesmoke.

SUMMARY:

Amazing balance from start to finish. Peat and iodine to fruit baskets then burning leaves or wood outdoors. Distinct compartments of flavour that harmonise masterfully, if all a bit too consonant, major thirds and fifths. Monstrous? Cookie monster, maybe.

You taste any of that, Tom???? LOL

xddco,

I've been seeing yours and many others post about scotch for quite some time now.

I am a beer drinker and in the past 6mos. due to an accident I haven't been able to really exercise and have put on about 30#.

I know that I have to give up the beer and really want to.

What type of scotch would you recommend to a beginner to sample?

The only liquor I really drank was about 20-25yrs ago as a kid partying.ie.Jack Daniels,Jim Beam,Wild Turkey etc.

Seeing your selection above I feel that you may be able to point me in the right direction.

Thank you in advance.

TIGER,

Give the Macallan 12 a try bro. It's a great one for beginners and scotch lovers alike IMO.

Of course Tom will be able to give you a more experienced opinion than I, as I am but a pure amatuer compared to this bastid, as made obvious by this picture alone...LOL!

I've never even tasted 98.2% of those.

Of course, I just got into Scotch in the last few years...

I'm a sour mash/bourbon kinda guy

McCallans is a great scotch to start with if you are a man of means...I suggest a Talisker if your on a limited budget,,,McCallans 25 if your set for life, and Glenfarclas 40 year Spyside Malt if you like a scotch costing more than your first car.
