Dan,
Did you make that? It looks delicious. What are you using in it?

I've got a passion for Meguro Sushi (tuna). Now I'm hungry.....thanks.

California roll, very popular at the sushi bars here. Nori, dried seaweed, Crab, I use Imitation, sushi rice, avocado,I like a little cucumber also and I add a touch of Japanese mayonnaise. Check out the other pictures in order to see how its done. very easy. And a must I almost forgot WASABI Japanese horse radish.

I've tried and tried to eat Sushi, and it never works. I close my eyes, and as soon as I get it up to my mouth, the send hits my nose and its all over. I find the crab to be especially stinky.

I bet I know some sushi bars where you would be stuffing that stuff down with every shot of sake like there was no tomorrow.

you'd be saying, "damn, that's some really good sushi, it sure beats that nasty stinky old bacon cheeseburger."

Can I have another please?

i'm sure i'm missing something here, but i really don't think so. i've tried some sushi made by a friend that my wife couldn't stop talking about. she likes sushi, and she thought his was awesome. i felt cheated out of a meal.

That's where the problem lies. Sushi is a very specialized cuisine. Its preparation is very meticulous and sushi chefs are highly trained, interned and tested on their skills. There's some stuff you can duplicate with pretty good results like what Dappedan has here. But most of it, from the selection of the fish, to the selection and steaming of the rice to the preparation of the wasabi, takes skill, experience and training.

The key to sushi, especially sashimi is quality and freshness of the fish. Most good sushi places have their chef go to the source to grade, select and purchase the fish himself. A series of poor selections can ruin a sushi bar. I have had a piece of Maguro (raw tuna)where I told the chef that it was a little bit "old" smelling. He threw out the whole side of fish and refused to accept my money for my meal. Additionally he gave me a bottle of sake. (Nevertheless, I returned many times to do business with his restuarant many times since...tipping him well).

Rayder,
That side of fish probably cost him about $300 bucks or more as well........

I've spent some time in Tsukiji Market buying fish and it's a wonder just standing there watching $5 Million in fish pass hands in one morning.

Yes, you are absolutely right about the quality of the fish......the saying goes, "in order for it to be good, it must be eaten before noon."

I have a thread jack story:

My buddies and I went fishing on the Sutsina (sp) River near Talkeetna Alaska. We were catching / releasing Coho and Sockeye like crazy. We hooked into a Coho that we had to take hostage.

My buddy...(half Japanese...half crazy...ex Cobra jock and full of suprises)...dressed out the fish...cut off a huge fillet. He pulls out a tube of Wasabi from his pocket and say's "Sushi anyone?".
It was frigging great! I swear some of the meat was still trying to get back in the water.

Dan's at the sushi again!!!!
Dan sent me over some Nori and wasabi to make sushi with after I told him that I am a big sushi fan.
He also sent me wine, habanero sauce, green chili sauce, chili oil........

Don't think I ever forgot Dan. You're in for it one of these days 😃
