A face only a mother could love?!

I was taking pictures of it working on the flower and all of a sudden it looked up towards me. 432325.jpg

Haha, thanks all for the comments, much appreciated!

It's amazing, all the freaky little details you see when you take the time to look. Intersting stuff out there.

Sloth, all I can say is get the lens! I had to go out shortly after buying the camera to get a Macro lens. Well worth it in my opinion.

Way cool pic!

Did you know bees have 5 eyes? You see the two large compound eyes, but they also have three simple eyes called ocelli, that they use to calculate time and proximity to the hive. Very cool insects...I have two hives full of em.

I like bees almost as much as squids and octopuses. Anybody remember 'Invasion of the Bee Girls'?

I've had chocolate covered 'baby' bees once, I think I found them at Cost Plus, along with the chocolate covered ants and grasshoppers ...

... tasted like chocolate covered rice crispies ...

Great picture.

But I really don't want to be that close to a stinging insect.

SirWolf, I don't know where you are located but do you ever get concerned your hives will be taken over by africanized honey bees? or is it an issue in your parts? they are everywhere where i live now.

ddandb --- I doubt he was really that close to his subject.

He was using the Canon 100mm/2.8 EF USM 1:1 Life Size Macro Lens lens ... which puts him a comfortably safe distance away.
