OK, I know I saw a thread on this topic once, but I have run an advanced search as far back as 18 months and can't find it. So, what is the easiest way to compress my photos for posting? Rug wants to post a picture of the rats.

open the pic in "Paint" or "Paint Shop Pro" or what ever you have. Click on re-size, select some percentage to reduce the photo by and then save it.

If you are doing this to a bit map pic just save as .jpg bit maps are notorisly large.

This is how I do it, probably the old fashioned way, but it is quick and it works. Others may offer up other ideas.

ruggysgirl,

If you have Windows XP,

Right click your mouse

Select "Resize Pictures"

Select one of the size options

Click the "OK" button

I use Adobe photoshop, "save for web" feature and it reduces the size more than half of some pics. Or, like the other posters say, use Paint. Save as BMP, then make into JPEG or GIF.

Thanks for the link Slim! Now maybe I can post a picture without having to have someone else resize it for me first.

you can also lower the megapixel on your camera. I take pictures for my company(Daytona Harley-Davidson)Oh, did I mention who I work for? I take my pictures @1megapixel and they post just fine on our webpage. This is the best size. Although, At times, I had to resize over 200 pictures and was that time consuming. I found out that on most digital cameras, you can do this. www.daytonaharley.com

The best 'simple' photo viewer I have found is Ifranview. Does most everything that one could want (I only use PaintShopPro when I need to do something fancy) and it is free.

Open the pic.

Crop out what you don't want (if applicable), then save as a new photo.

Resize.
