What do you guys and girls think about Rove and the mess that he has gotten himself in?

If he were a Democrat, they would sweep it under the table and it would not get the same coverage!

That said, if he did expose a CIA operative and some of the other things, then his ass should pay!

Charlie I disagree with you on the first point. I checked three different news sources (one being Fox) and this story was pretty prominent on all three. I also think that if it was a Dem (let’s just say Hillary, to make it interesting) who had “outed” a "Whitehouse friendly" CIA operative they would be in jail. I completely agree with you on the second point. If it is proven that Rove did out the operative he should fry.

His actions stink to high heaven! His boss had better keep his word in firing anyone who would do such a thing--but then again did W's words ever mean anything?

Tell me W didn't know about this!

As a side note. Of the three news sources that I peruse (Fox, Christian Science Monitor and NPR) only NPR didn't have this story on their front page.

Wagner,

It's not a proven fact that Bush said he would fire anyone caught leaking classified information. The quote that I heard from him (Sept '03) said that he "would take appropiate action". Of course, if anyone at the White House did leak classified information, then he/she should be fired.

He needs to go.

He needs to go first and foremost because what he did was wrong

And second he needs to go because GWB has said he would fire ANYone caught leaking information.

Even if he was told too “leak” the information, GWB has no political cover for not firing him.

I thought that in this country there was a presumption of innocense until proven guilty. Some of you guys have him convicted already.

If he did leak this information----he should go!

However, I stand on my original statement, that if it were a Democrat the cries would not be as harsh, and many of our fine Congressmen would be looking the other way and whistling a happy tune!

IN SHORT HE SHOULD GO!

Let's hope that if Rove did do this that he acted alone and not at the direction of anyone higher up. We (as in our country) don't need this.

The following is from the Washington Post:

Bush Vows Action if Aides Had Role in Leak

Democrats' Demand for Special Counsel Rejected

By Mike Allen and Dana Milbank

Washington Post Staff Writers

Tuesday, September 30, 2003; Page A01

President Bush's chief spokesman said yesterday that the allegation that administration officials leaked the name of a CIA operative is "a very serious matter" and vowed that Bush would fire anybody responsible for such actions.

Hope that clears it up for ya!

Just My Opinion.

Whoever is responsible for outing a CIA operative should be charged with treason, If the cold war were still going on they probably would.

I am not sure about the penalty for Treason, but at one time it was a firing squad.

Wagner,

What I mentioned was a quote atributable to the President himself. This is an article written by a liberal reporter who does not directly quote anyone, but mentions that Bush said it. Splitting hairs? Maybe, but so far you have not convinced me that Bush explicitly said that he would fire anyone.

By the way, when in the recent past have Democrats ever cared at all about the CIA or anybody in it?

Methinks they still don't care anything about the CIA, it's just an opportunity to get Bush.

Stay on subject--don't try to evade it.

Also, are you saying that Bush's chief spokesman lied in his message. If so why didn't the President correct it. The reporters didn't create the words--Scott McClellan did.

Please sort through the facts before you speak. And hold individuals properly accountable for their actions.

I'm not trying to evade anything. I'm just pointing out that there is no direct quote where Bush said that he would fire anyone who leaked classified information. Period. Now how is that not holding anyone accountable?

Krubs, I agree that this is a political opportunity that the Democrats would be stupid not to use to their advantage (but the Democrats have recently developed a keen knack for shooting themselves in the foot - literally, of course - can't have firearms in the Democratic party, you know ;-} But I digress.

Krubs, I don't think that the CIA is particularly the domain of the Republicans (nor do I believe that the military is!!). If the CIA or Military become overly politicized we are in for a world of hurt.

I definitely agree that the CIA should not be politicized in any way.
