I posted a thread under miscellaneous earlier this month about what you do with cigar bands....

This is the project I hinted at. I think that they turned out well. I would not be surprised if they did not start popping up here and there.

Nice ashtray!

I've made a bunch of these. I actually have another one in the works featuring all ISOM bands. I'll see if I can dig up the pictures.

Ok...I'm just a big goof.....how did you do that....I have a ton of bands laying around...and my wife shot down the "lets make a tabletop out of them" ...idea...
she also said something about letting go of the '80s...but an ashtray....now that I could sell...

Mrs. Tank,

If you build it, they will come. I will buy 3 or 4 of these if you are willing to "build" them. I would like one or two for myself and they would be the PERFECT xmas gift for a couple of my cigar smoking friends.

I'm serious. If you enjoy building them, I'll enjoy buying them. If you want to do that, send to me an email.

Great work.

(I shoulda stole one at the MWH2.... damn.)

j/k............ kinda....... but not really.

8,

They were not finished at the herf. They actually were barely started. Since the herf, I put 4 more coats of stuff on and sealed them. They were then finished with a felt bottom to prevent them from sticking.

I have you down for one, but will be making more. I am looking into different style ashtrays. I am also toying with the idea of making coasters too.

Mrs. Tank,

If I can help by sending some bands, let me know and I'll get them in the mail.

What cement do you use to glue the bands and felt to the ashtray?
(I know I should have looked up the previous thread on ashtrays)

Mod Podge. I got the felt at Wally World for less than $1/sheet.

8 - If you'd like me to use your bands on your ashtrays, go ahead and send them. Realize of course, that extras will be used in our wrecked room. I mean, Rec Room....

I'll start gathering the supplies (ashtrays) and will work on them probably after school starts.

When you write that e-mail detailing how this is done... can you include me? swn69 at hotmail dot com

I have an aluminum ashtray that could use some 'life'. How on earth do you get the bands stuck on there and NOT have them burn off when you lay a cigar on them? They are paper, afterall.

I use glass ashtrays and the bands are on the bottom.

Not sure what I could do to aluminum.
