if you notice the bird usually drop one or two feathers in the same poisiton on each wing.
when the new feathers get about 2 or 3 inches longer then the previously clipped flights, clip them back to the size of the other ones that have been clipped. when they grow a little mor clip them again. that way you never have to have all the flights clipped at once and you can do it yourself with a scissors. you won't hurt the bird, it's like cutting hair.
the more you can groom the bird, cut the nails and file the beak smooth, the less aggravation the bird will have going to a stranger to be handled. with some birds it's tough. i have had birds that needed to be covered with a towel but the bird will feel less theatened when it's owner does it. he or she knows he is safe with you.
gamine will sit and let me clip her nails with a little fussing.
zana sits in toby's arms with a towel over him for his nails and flights, but has no problem with me using a wooden or cardboard nail file on his beak. i think the little bugger gets off on the feel of the nail file on his beak.
