Makin' Hay is absolutely correct on this one. When we first shifted production from Miami to Esteli in '95, Nick Sr. purchased 4 year aged tobacco from a very large tobacco grower and a couple other provincial growers. We were going to use it for our La Tradicion blend, but Nick, Sr. deemed the ligero too potent for the silky blend of the brand. He stored the tobaccos in a bodega outside of Esteli (remember, at this point in time of our humble beginnings we were leasing space to produce our premium brands in Esteli) and as we started to produce our own fillers, the tobaccos were 'de-prioritized' on our production schedule. To the point where they were forgotten, actually. Nick, Jr., after RTDA 2004, still had the burden of going through his father's estate (as many of you may know, Nick, Sr. passed on just before the event). And during the process, Nick, Jr. realized and rediscovered what Tabacalera Perdomo had stored away - '91 vintage fillers which comprise a significant component of the new ESV cigars which will be on your tobacconists' shelves by early September.
The blend of viso, ligero, seco, volado and alto viso tobaccos remain the same as the award winning ESTATE SELECCION blend that garnered the highest vertical score in the history of Cigar Insider. But the ligero adds a depth to the cigar that must be sampled by cigar enthusiasts who appreciate a truly special moment in their cigar experience. Character beyond compare, this cigar is not only dressed for the occasion, but delivers on its promise. Trust me.
