Ok, so for the last 2 weeks, I have been dealing with an allergic reaction to a pair of shoes (yes, shoes)

All I can think of is that they used rubber cement in the mfg. process. I know I am allergic to that.

The best part??? After dealing with the first outbreak for a week or so, before I realized what caused the problem, I PUT THE SHOES BACK ON FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS!!! So, my feet broke out again.

Tank has been laughing for days.

Does anyone else out there seem to have allergies to odd things?

So tell me your stories. I could use a chuckle.

I am allegic to cedar dust. I worked around it for a few years. Now if I cut a 1 by 4 piece of cedar I can't breath for about 4 days.

If your allergies really bother you, even the ones that we tend to think of as minor like seasonal allergies, try the Allergy Associates in La Crosse. I can already see a difference in our kids, and another little boy that I know of is being cured of his peanut allergy. They formulate antigen drops based on RAST and blood tests, and then the antigen drops "immunize" you against your allergies. They have an amazing success rate, and asthma can be treated in the same way.

I don't have any strange allergies but my best friend is allergic to watermelon. Does that count?

I knew a black guy who was allergic to watermelon.....man, did he ever catch it from BOTH sides. I'm not joking about that. True story!

I'm interested in this allergy clinic you speak of ruggysgirl. I'll look them up. Thanks.

I am allergic to strawberry plants but not the berries. My daughter is allergic to all citris. We also realized she is allergic to chlorine and she was on a swim team for 9 years.

Adroomi, you would have to fly back here quite often at the onset of your treatment. They may be able to recommend a clinic closer to you, like on the West coast, or maybe even in Japan.

I have severe allergies.

The worst one being petroleum products. It forced me to move from my home, in south arkansas, here to NW Arkansas. The refinery in my home town, was the problem. As far as weird allergies, I have a cat, that was allergic to the plaque buildup on his teeth. The inside of his mouth broke out, and it was too painful for him to eat. The vet pulled all of his teeth, except the front and canines.

His mother also has weird allergies. She is fine, until I start to pet her. Then she starts snezing uncontrollably. The vet has determined that she is allergic to human dander. LOL A cat that is allergic to humans. LOL

I am allergic to most pollens. This time of year, is aweful for me. I have trouble getting the full enjoyment out of my cigars, food, and drinks, because my sinuses are out of whack. I wish I could find a cure. It's impossible for me to do cigar reviews, as I cannot taste the subtle flavors. I have to have my employees, taste the food I prepare, especially sauces, as I cannot trust my tastebuds. This is particularly frustrating for a chef.

I could use some contact info, for that allergy clinic.

Thanks

Dave (A.K.A. Homebrew)

Thanks. I am feeling a bit better about this. The rough part is not being able to wear shoes for extended periods of time. I have been making do with a pair of sandals that are more like soles held on with rubberbands.

I have never had an allergic reaction to anything.

My son, on the other hand... tells me one afternoon he has a headache. He was 12 or 13 at the time, so I gave him a couple Alleve. About an hour later he comes down from his room and says, calmly... "Dad, my headache is gone, but my eyes are swelling shut".

I took him to the emergency room right away and they just gave him some Benadryl. Doc said no more Naproxen Sodium for him.

Mrs Tank, is there anywhere that makes all leather shoes? You poor thing!! I have allergies to all make up with perfume in it and soap of all kinds, mowed grass and it goes on and can be funny, because I never know what's going to make it act up. I take pills, but sometime they just don't help.

My daughter is also allergic to the allergy medicine Zyrtec. Imagine our surprise when she kept breaking out in hives after she took it.

I forgot, I am also allergic to a lot of soaps and makeup and a bunch of other things I hadn't thought of. Never realized how many allergies I had until you started this thread. 🙂
