I'm house-sitting for a friend who has one of these (grey & yellow). She is obviously doesn't like me very much; she hisses at me. She puffs out her chest/wings and does this side-to-side step thing.

I agree, great looking bird.

"She is obviously"

should read, she obviously. That's what I get for typing while intoxicated.

she's just scared. don't wear a hat. kneel so your face is about a foot away from her cage. don't let her see your hands. talk gently to her or sing a song quietly.

she will listen and settle down. watch her fluff her feathers and preen herself a litle.

no sudden moves to her or backing away.

let be know how it works out.

Tell him to put a bag over his head & not to forget to sprinkle a little bird seed on top.

Heck, a turkey buzzard will love you if you follow my instructions.

There is a bar in LaCrosse called Buzzard Billy's Flying Carp Cafe. I've never been, but the name makes me giggle every time. I told my mom about it and she started calling Ruggy "Buzzard" after that. LOL!!!!

the difference is size. bith have a crest that comes up if the bird is exited and both come from australia.

the other differences between them are man made.

cockatoos are priced from $1000,00 to $20,000. and are rarely crossbred. minimume cage is a 2' X 2' with the cockatoo having he ability to stand outside the cage on a play pen or in my case a tree i made. they need to spread out and move about for health and vitality.

cockateils are cheap, anywhere from $10.00 up to whatever the traffic will bear for unusual colors.

because of this, cockateils are constantly crtoss bred to produce a more colorful and valuale bird

they eat about the same things and both can learn to talk. cockateils live about 15 to 20 years. the life span of a cockatoo can me the same as man. they can live 70 or more years.

my suggestion for a first bird is always a parakeet.

cheap, colorful, small cage, tame easily and learn to talk as well as any bird. if you find out you don't have the time or interest in a bird, you have a minimum investment, life span about 5 years.

I had one when I was young named Dago. We're Italian and my Grandfather did not like the name. The bird talked up a storm and Gramps heard him saying Hello Dago over and over . He was getting madder and madder each time he heard it. I thought he was going to kill me. He was kind of viloent old man. Would'nt think twiced about beating the crap out me.
