Hey guys...

I do a lot of trades with other folks that own all sorts of businesses. I own a Transmission shop.

I have been doing trades with a certain jeweler for about ten years. The wife usually is the one that makes out pretty good! But not this time... ;>)

I traded a couple of transmission rebuilds for a used Rolex Daytona about 3yrs ago. It was actually like new. I posted a pic of it a while back.

Now he needs a BMW740 rebuilt and an older 450SL mercedes conv he is restoring. So he offered me a trade in on my old Daytona for a new one, and for doing the 2 trans rebuilds. This damn watch is a $12,000-$14,000 watch depending on where you get it.

I still look at this watch and pinch myself. I do pretty damn well with my tranny business, but I never thought I'd own a couple of Rolex's. It's kinda strange.

Learn a trade, stick with it, work hard and make it to the top of your trade. I'll tell you what, almost any trade you become the best at, will pay back well.

This Daytona is a more rare model. This has Roman numerals, it's solid stainless steel(Durable). I've never seen this model before, and I've looked at many others since I owned one before.

I'm still doing the peepee dance!!!

Daytona is a great watch. My favorite Rolex. It holds its value very well too due to being so desirable. I got 90% on a recent sale of my last Daytona, which I wore daily for three years. You made out like a bandit on that one! Congrats

Jewelers seem to be born horse traders. Many years ago, I worked for a freelance gemstone dealer/jeweler. He usually paid me off in stones. I traded a 1.67 carat cornflower blue sapphire that I got from him for a '69 Fiat 124 coupe road racer. To be more specific, I traded the sapphire back in exchange for a pile of 'healy feely' stones, which I then traded to the guy with the Fiat (he was a new age dude). Although it would have taken about six of those sapphires to equal the watch. Sweet score.

Very nice piece. Congrtulations, it is a super watch.

Is this the daytone that has the El Primero movement or the newer Rolex movement ? Either way, you have a great watch.

Thanks guys!

Hey Steve & Beat, I'll wear it friday night and show you guys at the Winery.

Ryan, no it's a bathroom towel.

Cparker, I'm guessing that it's like the newer movement. I saw a commercial on TV with a Rolex up close. My second hand moves like the one I saw. But so did my other Daytona.

Color me unimpressed.

It's a watch. You look at it to see what time it is. What a huge waste of money. Thousands of dollars for something you're going to look at to see what time it is.

Not to detract from your find... simply stating that I find Rolex's a waste of money.

Some people think that way about cars... but if I was a wealthy man, i'd have a fleet of cars and not one Rolex, so I guess it all depends on what you like.

Shawnski...

A Rolex Daytona is not worn to tell time. Although its a useful feature, it is a status symbol. Much like a 4ct diamond to a woman. It is a money is no object statement. That watch is also a work of art. The craftsmanship is amazing, the movement flawless. Where you can have it with you always, you can only drive one muscle car at a time. Im sure you wouldn't want your collection to get weathered so an expensive garage will be in order. Much more costly than a jewlery box. And the Rolex doesnt need fluids or a fraction of the maintenance as your harem of american muscle. Or the cost of the mechanic you would need to have on site to care for your rolling beauties. Then there is insurance, gas etc etc. Compared to one Rolex, not a bargain in the least. Quite frivolous as a matter of fact. Or maybe you just have no appreciation for the finer things in life. You prefer a shot and a beer, if you were a drinking man, to Louis XIV cognac (yuck). A tube steak to a Filet, a White owl to a Siglo IV (oh wait, strike that)....

So, I guess what im saying is...

yer a cheap date.

:)

I already have a nice house & nice cars. I've got big bank accounts and a successfull business.

This is a perk that comes along with the territory of being successfully self employed.

Now go wind your timex son...

The only reason I would ever justify a Rolex is if I was out looking for one night stands. 😛
