Sam Calagione, President of Dogfish Head Brewery in Delaware has recently brewed a Chinese beer from a 9000 year old recipe made up of rice, honey, grape, and hawthorne fruit.

National Geographic has agreed that this is the oldest known recipe for Chinese beer. The recipe was discovered by University of Pennsylvania archiologists as they studied clay pots from ruins of the villiage of Jiahu.

Dogfish's President, Calagione has also produced beer from a 2,700 year old Turkish recipe that comes from King Midas. He marketed it as "Midas Touch Golden."

I want to try some. If anyone can find it, let me know....I'll make you a good trade.

I've drank 4000 year old recipe's here in the villages but nothing this old.

Sounds more like a liquer/wine than a beer.

Curious to hear about its taste.

What't the most unusual tasting alcoholic beverage that you've ever tasted in your travels?

I recently gave a bottle of wine that was over 110 years old to the church for their Easter Service (Eucharist). They said that it was still tasty and sweet. Glad nobody died. LOL!

Rickamaven said that he was going to send me a bottle of "12 year-old"(?) scotch that he had purchased back in the mid-sixties. I assume the whiskey would still be good after 40 years- right? If anything, it should be smoother?

Enough of my ramblings, back to the coal mine.

I don't think whiskey will continue to mellow after bottling. A 12 year old scotch purchased 30 years ago should only be expected to be as smooth as a 12 year old purchased today.

Adroomi, my local beer haven sells dogfish brand. I'll let you know if I find the chinese stuff.

Adroomi, I'm a six month C-bidder and I'm intrigued by your postings about traveling. Just what exactly do you for a living , if I may ask ? My brother is an architect who works for a international firm and he travels all over the world but has little time to explore while on business. Just curious, sorry about the threadjack. I'm a ceramic artist MFA and also work in Ice Cream sales.

Sounds tasty, but how is this "beer" ??

I suppose the rice accounts for the grain base but to me, beer is a marriage of malted grain and hops.

My prediction is that this will be interestingly nasty.
