Dr Pepperhill
hunter must have taken himself too seriously.
i'm 73 and looking forward to a cruise with toby just before christmas.
he needed to laugh at himself and wear a foil hat.
come along with me, the best is yet to be.
One day I had a date with friends, We met to have some lunch;
Mae came along with them, All in all, a pleasant bunch.
The menus were presented,Ordered salads, chicken and soup;
Except for Mae who said,"Ice cream, please. Two scoops."
I wasn't sure of what I'd heard, The others were aghast;
"Along with heated apple pie,"She added, completely unabashed.
We tried to act as if, People did this all the time;
But for some unknown reason, I just stared at mine.
I could not take my eyes off her, As ice cream and pie went down;
The other ladies showed dismay, Just looked at her and frowned.
The next time I went out to eat, I called and invited Mae;
I asked for white tuna meat, She ordered a parfait.
I smiled when I saw her plate, She asked, "Do I amuse thee?;"
I answered, "Yes, you do; You also do confuse me."
How come you order rich desserts, While I am careful about what I eat?"
She laughed and said, with wanton mirth, It's just a little treat."
I try to eat the food I need, And do the things I should;
But life's too short, my friend, To miss out on something good."
I realized I was old," she grinned, I've not been this old before;
So, before I die, I've got to try, Those things I have ignored."
I've not smelled all the flowers yet, Too many books I've not read;
There's more fudge sundaes yet to eat, And flying kites above my head.
I haven't shopped at all the stores, Or heard the funniest jokes;
I've missed a lot of Broadway hits, And potato chips and cokes.
I want to wade in a shallow pool, Have the ocean's spray upon my face;
Sit again in a little country church, Thanking God for all His grace."
Jam spread thick every day, On my morning toast;
Untimed long-distance calls, To the folks I love the most.
There are movies yet to cry at, Walking in the morning rain;
Wind blowing through my hair, Falling in love again.
When I choose to have dessert, Instead of having dinner;
I could die before nightfall, And still have been a winner
I would have missed nothing, Having what my heart desired;
I even had that chocolate mousse, Before my life expired.
I called the waitress over, I've changed my mind, it seems;
I want what she is having, And add some more whipped cream!.
