Cost of 127 buses in a New Orleans parking lot………….. $ 6,300,000.00



Gas to fill their tanks ………………………. ………………$ 11,112.50



127 drivers to drive them all day August 26 and 27.. ………$ 152,000.00



Having a Mayor with the foresight to use them…………… Priceless



127 busses x 50 people each = 6350 people



60,000 people who could have been evacuated by the City of New Orleans on the above buses had the Mayor of New Orleans used the foresight he is accusing others of not using.



60,000 / 6350 = 10 round trip bus trips to evacuate people to higher ground prior to the storm hitting.



Instead, the buses sat, and the Mayor now complains about the lack of transportation, and blames those in charge of responding to the crisis for not getting him buses after the storm!

You can blame the Mayor, or you can blame Bush. Any way you look at it, every level of government f*cked up.

Now is not the time to point fingers. Now is the time for all men to come to the aid of in need. Heads will roll, just not until the mess is cleaned up.

You are definitely right on that account.

I have a buddy who's mother lived in Mississipi, just 50 yards from the beach. He talked to her that night Katrina was coming. He tried to convince her to get out, but she just told him that she would ride it out and to just stop calling her.

Needless to say all efforts to find or contact her have failed. Right now she is presumed dead. My buddy is understandably upset.

I guess his mom figured all the other canes had missed, so this one wouldn't be any different. Unfortunately it's human nature to become complacent. The best we can do is learn from the mistakes and be prepared as best we can.

Besides, all of those busses are privately owned. The mayor didn't have the authority to make them run.

The reason that Bush was so severely criticised about Katrina was that he was on vacation at the time and neither he, nor his staff (apparently) were aware of the severity of the problem. When he finally addressed the issue he put an official with no training or experience in disaster management (Brown) to head the federal relief effort. Add to this, the ineptness on state and city officials, whose corruptness and ineptitude is only matched by the current administration in New York City and you have a recipe for disaster.

well, that and he personally blew up the levee... 😟

Not mention using that blastid weather machine to conjure up Katrina.
