Hey guys (and Gals),

The latest thread on guns got me thinking I should ask you knowlegable folks about my issue.

I need a small, easy to carry pistol. I have a .40 cal Sprigfield xd 3" with the 9 round clip. It is a great gun, and very acurate but a little too big. I want to pick up something that is smaller and easier to wear. I do not think I want to go smaller than a 9mm as stopping power is important, but maybe you know a shell that I have not thought about that you have had good luck with. I am thinking about the Kahr Arms 9mm, and I have fired the Kel-tech but the spent shells hit me in the head/face. Not a good thing in a pressure situation.

So any of you have any recommendations for me? Thanks for your help, I will let you know what I finally decide on.

Get a Glock 36, it is a .45 cal, 6+1, single stack so the grip is small enough for a female, but comfortable enough for a man.

I love it!

Semmerling .45, rare, possibly expensive, needs to be hand cycled after every shot, but almost as small as your average .25 auto, and holds 5 rounds

BTW, dont let the .45 make you think you can not conceal it. It conceals VERY well.

I'm a 45 freek so I would recommend the Glock model 30. It's a sub-compact and shoots good.

My Steyr M40 is smaller than a 1911 style, and I think there is a compact model too.

Usually, if I feel the need to carry on my person (not very often), I grab my wife's Taurus 38 (lightweight alum/stainless).

Dear Mr. Kraus

I highly recommend The Intratec TEC-9 9mm semiautomatic pistol. The Tec-9 is light weight, versatile, and above all, will kill anything that gets in front of it. It has a 30 round clip and will fit neatly under your trench coat. It worked well for me.

Sincerely,

Dylan Klebold.

Dear Mr. Snipe,

Thank you for your input. If you do not beleive in carrying a firearm for protection I respect that, but please do not bring something like Columbine up when I have a legitimate question. You will not find a fight here, so please move along.

gosh and all i have is a s&w 38 police special.

of course i don't go where there might be the idea that my gun is necessary.

i have carried it when toby and i go to strange moutains and dark streets when we are expecting shooting stars displays a few times a year.

i also bring the dog, who is more alert then me, a 10,000,000 candle power, thor x, "flashlight" more like a beacon.

mkraus47 -

Take a look at a Kahr. Very well made and concealable.

If cost isn't an issue, the Detonics Combat Master is a subcompact 1911 that can't be beat.

I agree with RDC I have a Glock model 36 45 caliber that I carry with hollow points. It is small enough to put in your front pocket if you have to or it fits great in a shoulder holster or a belt holster. Plenty of stopping power but yet compact enough.

I'm a big fan of the Glock 23. The 40 cal will give you stopping power that a 9 can't. It's small enought to carry and large enought to to handle easily (not a big fan of anything much smaller).

Just my .02

i know jack schitt about guns...

but a friend who is into them and used to shoot pistols competively told me that a basic .32 or .38 revolver is great for protection whether it be for home or "concealed to carry" like we have in TX

one of these days, i'll learn how to handle a firearm and get one just in case...

you never know..

if my post has nothing to do with what was asked...sorry

I think that a 380 is a great small caliber gun to carry. I know alot of law enforcement carry these as backups.

Dear Mr. Kraus

It was sarcasm. Get over it. I have.

mkraus47, I have asked the same question. The way you dispatched herfsnipe was fabulous. Do you offer classes? That firm but not inflammatory style is one I could use!
