I'm looking to download music to burn CDs for myself and my kids.

Yahoo has a music site that allows pay-per download, or a monthly fee with unlimited downloads.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to burn CD's with the music, or if it's only for an iPod type device, which I don't have.

If anyone knows about this site or any other (Morpheus?) that may be good for this, I'd appreciate the input.

Thanks,

'Gater.

I'm kind of partial to LimeWire.

What OS are you running, Gater? Windows XP should allow you to burn mp3 files into a format readable by any CD player. Musicmatch Jukebox does too... even the free one.

You don't have to have an iPod to download music from Apple.com, and you can make 3 legit copies, as per their agreement.

Limewire is pretty cool too, though.

To get this straight....

limeware, bearshare, soulseeker

are P2P file sharing programs if i'm not mistaken...correct? Therefore, it is the user's responsibility to not share copyrighted material...correct?

itunes and musicmatch are sales sites where you have to buy the music before you download it...correct?

or is there a free music oasis somewhere free of RIAA?

(legitimate questions...not being an ass)

I used to use Kazaa before all the bad stuff happened with free downloads and whining from record companies.

so i'm curious as well. and was looking for a free site that was worth trying.

i'll check out a couple of these but i'm still open to a good free site to download free music that will turn out good on cd's.

i understand thier concern for "stealing" music but if it's for personal use there isn't a problem.

i mean i can still take a cassette tape and record music....no problem , no hassle.

now if they want to go after the "bootleg" copies that people are making money off of by selling unlimited copies....yes , it's hurting thier sales !

but one or two songs from a cd is all i usually burn anyway. and $1 a song on some sites isn't worth it.

i haven't bought a "new" cd for about 3 years now.....i go to a second hand shop and buy my records and cd's there. $1-$3 for a record and $3-$5 for a cd.

just have to keep going in to take-a-chance on finding what i want.

but there are still songs i'd like to burn !

Regarding Apple's Itunes:

You will not be able to create regular music cds. I tried doing so and was unable to convert their format to one that I could burn to disc.

mp3 quality is actually quite good, especially for the file size.

I logged onto limewire and made a CD for my girls.

So far, so good.

bearshare is stil an unregulated free file sharing site. Of course, I would not endorse music piracy.

There is an add supported free version, and a pay version w/o adds which I prefer.

S4_biturbo -- yes you are able to create a regular music cd of the music, it just has to be done with the iTunes program.

Before I got my new computer, I used to use WinMX. It is a free program that allows you to share music. There was not anything that you could not find. Of course, music piracy is wrong and I would never condone it, but I sure loved WinMX.
