Can you load any MP3 on an Ipod or will they only take songs from Apple Itunes?

My daughter wants to get one and I want to make sure that it will take any .mp3's we already have.

BTW the new Nano is just the coolest. I highly suggest that instead of a regular iPod unless you don't need more than 4 gigs, then go with an iPod.

Ipods are great...but very bad for the gym, so I sold mine. I bought a first generation 10gb model about a week after they came out. After selling it on auction, (not here!) I read the horror stories of Ipod batteries dying, and the cost to replace/repair these batteries was the same as a brand new Ipod. I'm sure glad I sold mine. Hopefully they fixed this problem.

I've had my 40 gig one for over a year and never had a battery problem. The new Nano's are based on flash memory and have a 14 hour battery life. I was impressed with the iPod, but the Nano is pretty amazing.

I would hold off on the Nano until Apple addresses the scratching issues and the cracking display.

Apple says it's a small percentage of Nanos that are having the problem, but there seems to be a lot of complaints on the blogs and boards.

I too want a Nano, but will wait until the issues are fixed.

I use my IPOD at the gym, both on the treadmill and lifting weights and have never had a problem (it's in one of the otterbox like hard cases). Only problem is battery life isn't as long as I would like.

I love my iPod. I have the 40 gig 3rd generation model. I use this thing day in and out. I had some battery problems but the battery was easily replaced. I found a site online that sold the battery for 25 bucks. That sure beats the 99.00 that apple wanted. I've got some good software for transfering music and files from the iPod back onto any computer. Anybody interested..email me at
