I have the huge linden tree in my front yard, dogwoods on the sides of the house and i'm not sure what the one out back is but it has leaves. The neighbors all have trees. My propery is up against Gunpowder state park. So in the fall their is a LOT of raking to do. I want to get out of raking.

So I had this theory...

All the leaves fall of trees because a few of them are lazy. Most leaves would be happy to stay on the trees year round...BUT the few lazy ones let go.. others see them laying on the ground and figure what the heck and let go. And it's like a domino effect. Eventually they all just give up.

All because of a few lazy leaves!

So here was my plan. As soon as they started dropping this year I picked them up and put them back in the tree.

Something is wrong with my theory. I have a lot of leaves in my yard... and fall is just starting.

It seems like it should work. Where have I gone wrong?

D,

I leave my leaves on the ground until it's clear enough (after a couple of snows) to mow.. I have a 5hp mulcher and have been doing this since I bought my house in 2001... I know my neighbors probably would like to kill me because of not raking my leaves on a constant basis? and the guy across from me would be the first one at that LOL... anyways Mulching these leaves down adds to the lawns care come spring/summer it puts nutrients (sp) right back into the ground...

I also right before the end of the year allow my grass to go to seed... This has thickend my yard even more... and the only thing I think I may need is to add some lime.. which I haven't yet in the years I've been here (to busy and do not have a good location to purchase)

I'd try mulching if I were you?

By placing them back into the tree, you are essentially reintroducing those bad eggs into the mix. Their bad mouthing will cause a quick ripple effect.

You should immediately remove them from view of society to a safe place where you can readjust their attitude towards that of a productive society. After which point they may be reintroduced to the general leaf society.

It worked for that guy in central Florida...

(Sounds like a bad Tom Cruise movie don't it?)

Redleg has the correct general idea. Personally, I think that they need to be incarcerated at the state park behind your house. To do this, you will need to purchase the largest, loudest, leaf blower in existance. Next weekend, just "blow them away." Now remember, like any prisoner, they will try and escape. You will find some of them back the next week (as they try and escape from their prison). Just keep on putting them back, while explaining you are extending their sentence. Eventually they will comply, but next fall they will have all forgotten and you need to start the process all over again.

Good Luck.
