I know a lot of mlitary and prior military guys and gals post in these forums so i thought id ask this here. Anybody familiar with where to buy Cuban cigars in Japan? More precisely near Misawa AFB? I’ve got an old military buddy stationed over there and I’m trying to steer him in the right direction.

Not too sure about Misawa but I do know that there is a LCDH in Tokyo. Sorry I can't help any better. I have found that most of the cubans over here to be fake anyway.

i live in kobe, near osaka, and we got 2 places with a small and medium selection. cigars are not popular out here.

for the price, they better not be fake. i think tokyo, osaka city, and okinawa may have some fake problems, but as far as i know, these japanese LOVE their labels (fashion, etc)...they will pay to impress.

I only know the Tokyo area, and there are several places to pick them up. The prices are about double what you would pay on the internet, though.

Cadbeans,

There are several licensed smoke shops in Japan (Tokyo, Kobe, Osaka, etc), and I have NEVER come across a fake Cuban in Japan yet. Where are you finding them? If you are buying from a shop, then I can assure you they are not fake. If you are buying from some Russian guy on the street in Shibuya, then yes, I would agree that they are fake.

As mentioned above, you would be hard pressed to find a fake anything in Tokyo....at least not unless you look down a few back alleys.

Maybe you just found a bad place. I'd be interested to know where though....I'll go bust them in person (he he).

Cigars are simply not that popular in Japan.

KCody,

Tell your bud to go to the nearest 4-5 star hotel and he can find them in the lounge. They'll have a humi with them for sale. Or, fly over to Korea and meet a friend of mine named Pierre. He's got the ONLY distributors license for the country to sell Cubans. He is BIG business in Korea, and has a multimillion dollar business going on over there. Might be cheaper to take a hop via Misawa to Osan. Pierre has a subcontracted shop just outside the main gate of Osan AB, just under a bar called "Voodoo."

If you've got an APO/FPO, I've got a bud at Osan that can MPS to you. I'll contact him, and see if he's willing. He might charge you a stick or two if you're going for a box..........

kcody,

I spent 19 days at Misawa AFB, 1994...

there was a shop.. walking distance out the gate as your heading to the Base Club... the guy's shop had all kinds of gifts etc.. he also carried a small selection of Cuban cigars.. there was also a port town maybe 20 klm. from the main gate and a little shop down by the ocean front.. I cannot recall the name of the town tho.. but it was a large fishing port with built up sea walls? and there was one more place.. I think the name of the place was Crator Lake, up on the mountian it was a good distance probably 50-60 klm from the base... ski resort.. everything was expensive there though...

I'll look through some old photo's and get back to you on the names of these places...

Ha, what Lofty said... I'll be able to tell you in a week from now if I can remember what I had for breakfast today??

my long term memory is in tact, my short term memory is shot.. but I been working on that with Vitamin B12 and it's getting better...

I can recall all my tours and events when I was in the military.. don't know why either? because I blocked out most events of a 19 1/2 yr failed marrage... It's weird

adroomi my Finace went up to Yokuska on the ship that she was on and picked me up some "Cohiba's" for a hotel there. When she got back and gave them to me I was looking at them and there was five rows of dots on the band....Three rows above COHIBA and all they said on them was Habana, Cuba. I am also stationed down in Sasebo which is in the lower part of Japan and I have not found one place here that sell true cubans. I was hoping that when I fly out of here to have a nice layover in Osaka to try and find a shop there.

cad,

a few MAJOR department stores have them. i got one at Daimaru. it is too big a shop and too highly respected to be fake.
