Andy,

The bowl at the top is La Mian (hand made) noodles with spicy sauce and cured beef. The bowl to the left is Beijing pork dumplings with vinegar (American way to spell it) for dipping. The plate to the left is sateed egg whites with fish. The plate directly in front is La Mian noodles with spicy and sour soup and tofu with fungus (mushrooms for those that associate fungus as NOT food).

Total cost? About $2.90 USD.

By the way, La Mian means hand pulled noodles. Ramyeon means machine made noodles. Ramen means salty cancer causing store bought crud that I ate when I was a starving university student with a side dish of spaghetti-O's.

Andy, take your ramen and instead of adding hot water to it, boil it in the water with sliced up hot dogs and a couple of eggs. Cook well, and and some pepper paste. When done, put a couple slices of cheese on top. Now you have a drunkards meal......517189.JPG

Lofty,

I bet if you dug into this, you'd change your mind. It's strange to eat something with flavor at first, but after about 5 bites, you realize just what an "explosion of flavor" means.

Trust me, you'd dig it.

Adroomi. Interesting, I added chopped up hot dogs (fried first) to my Ramen, too. Only, I boiled the noodles in chicken stock instead of water.

adroomi, i've tried food with "flavor" before, and i nearly puked. i went to a thai restaurant in saudi arabia that everyone said had the best fried rice they ever had. one bite of the fried rice and i was almost sick. i had to order something else. i ended up ordering some dish with thinly cut beef with peppers in a beef "broth". they warned me that it would be too spicy. apparently, all my hot food training in texas paid off because i didn't think it was too spicy at all. it was good but not great. again, a cheeseburger would have been much better. put some bacon on it, and we're talkin' really good eatin'. i just don't care for asian food. meat, potatoes, and beer are enough for me.

Maybe the next "Board" should be a Recipe Board. I have several I could post.

RDC,

Yes, and then we could have a quilt board too....oh, and I'd love to have a general gossip board where we could talk about Julio and Enrique.

Just kidding....we sound like grandmothers.

That meal looks awesome.

I sure wish I could find that here.

I spent some time in Boston once and ate several times at a Vietnamese place in the upscale part of town. It was primarily a noodle joint.

I liked most of the dishes, but not the fish ones; there was fish-cake type stuff floating in it that just tasted foul and rotten (and usually foul and rotten doesn't bother me).

I used to ask each time for something spicy and they would bring me little dishes of hot stuff and then peer around the kitchen door to see if I would eat it and get sick. No matter how HOT it was, I wouldn't give them any indication of discomfort, and it drove them nuts. After a few times, they smiled when they saw me and called me "spicy".

With Viet food, I tend to stay away from the fishy stuff. I don't like their fishy stuff.

I'm a Chinese food nut. It's my favorite. You could eat a different course every night for 10,000 years and never have a different meal.

So many different styles of food from all the provinces. Once you start to recognize the "style" of each province, you really get on a good kick with it.

I'm lately learning all about the "flower pepper." it's a special peppercorn that only comes from one area. very distinct taste.

You can’t fool me, that’s the Vietnamese sampler at Denny’s! 😉

Speaking of Vietnamese food... I love spring rolls. Not the deep fried ones, the "fresh" spring rolls. Oh, they’re to die for. We have a Korean restaurant here that's pretty good. They make an awesome kimchee soup, with their own homemade kimchee.

The dish on the right with the raw egg looks like it would make be gag… but all the other dishes look awesome.
