Yeah ... he's going to kill us both ... hehehe! At least we have a month or so ... while he recuperates!

I did that for my father in 1986. It was a last ditch effort since he never told anyone he was on a donor list for almost a year. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to overcome the other physical problems he had going on at the time. He passed away 2 weeks after the surgery. However for the 7 days I had with him just after the surgery, It was worth every second of my recovery time. If I had 3 kidneys, I would do it again. To anyone facing this, or anyone who knows anyone facing this. There is no greater feeling in the world then to give this gift. In our case the transplant was a success because of the near exact match between my father and I. The end result could have been better, but we knew the risk. I wouldn't have done it any other way.

I'm gonna kick Slim's ass now!...No matter how tall that mofo is..LMFAO!..Thanks all for the well-wishes!...I've been in Florida for a couple of days now..Tests have been going fine so far (only one short delay..a mixup with my dad's insurance co) but everything's on track now..all looking good!...I have the MRI, Chest Xray and CAT scan on Mon and Tues, plus another 24 hr urine collection..Most of the regular bloodwork is finished and we're scheduled to have the transplant on the 23rd...Ray, did you have a laprascopic removal of your kidney or the old fashioned way (ouch)?...I'll send you an email...My dad has DSL (Niiiiice!)

I don't do Tampa/St.Petersburg/Clearwater it's a driving nightmare, too much traffic, the worst in Florida.

Keith - kudos to you!! My best friend did the same for his mom and both are doing great!! The funny thing is that when he was about to be released the doctor came in and gave him a t-shirt, it read, "I donated a Kidney and all I got was this stupid shirt!!" Quite funny! He had the laprascopic and was out of the hospital in no time, his mom had no complications and was out in the normal period of time. Good luck and we're all pulling for you and your dad!! chris

I did it the old fashioned way and have the 14" scar to show for it. And I didn't even get a T-shirt. One of the good things is I had mine done at Pacific Presbyterian Hospital in San Francisco. They get their cooks from the San Francisco Culinary Institute. They had the best hospital food I have ever seen. You and your Dad will do well I am sure.
