1989.

My buddies and I cruised down in my VW for a week.

We had about $50 a piece for the whole week.....spent the last two nights playing songs on Duval Street for beer cash.

I think we were about 16yo.523793.jpg

Very cool, Andy.

1989, eh?

I'd already been married to my 2nd wife (and last wife) for 2 years.

Also unempl..., er, self-employed for over a year.

Well, I would have made more money on unemployment...

the gentleman on the right is "Lunch Money Surf"....who peruses these boards occasionally.

he looks about the same now, except he is fatter, balder, and uglier.

andy, that's awesome! I did the same thing solo in 1990 after I was released Honorably from the NAVY. stayed in my van and showered in hotel pools after midnight. would go scuba diving and spearfishing and partake in the Duval Street crawl. I liked the Hogsbreath the best. It was nothing but a good time.

Met alot of great people during my stay there. I loved the festivities at sunset especially.

Those WERE the days.

Paul,

You probably remember the guy who played guitar, harmonica, and drum then. He played at Mallory Square each night. That dude would play Robert Johnson songs all night.

There was also a bum I met that knew all the verses to "Alice's Restaurant".

Crazy.

I was there in 1990 too for a week with friends. We only spent two days in Key West...I remember some punk smashed me in the cheek on the street for some reason..........that wasn't you was it?

Nope, didn't get physical with anyone there. it's so peaceful down there. I would go back in a heartbeat if I had my way. Last time I was there was back in jan 01.

do remember the guys that would be put in a straight jacket and be hung upside-down and get himself out?

Should plan a trip back there somedays and go fishing for Marlin

The Duval Crawl! Highly recommended... but the good 'ol days are gone... Tourists and spring-breakers have discovered Key West in a big way now.

Incidentally, the Gheenoe in that picture is still around. Bought in 1978. That boat has a history. Two years ago the biggest redfish I've ever seen was landed on that boat, about 100 yards off the beach in beautiful Satellite Beach. Sucker must have been 50#.

You two look so young and fresh and - um - not innocent, that wasn't the word I was after.

Eager! That's it!

1989, huh? I was at Moorhead State freezing my butt off and wishing that hats didn't destroy mall hair. Yikes! I may have to dig out a picture just so Andy isn't alone in the big hair crowd.

Where, where?

OK, I'll dig out a big hair and maybe a goth one if I can find one that doesn't look like a corpse. Yeah, I know - that was the point.
