From tastings.com...

97 • Ron Zacapa Centenario 23 Year Old Rum $39.99.

Rich chestnut color. A Christmas spice and caramel fudge nose. This full-bodied rum has rich brown spice, vanilla and subtle molasses flavors envelope the palate with sugar caney sweetness. Has a super smooth and lengthy finish. A stylish and very hedonistic aged rum.

I had some of this last night, and all I can say is wow. Decadent.

ryan,

By far my favorite rum. I will forever be in debt to prime 1010 for introducing me to this nectar. I should also state that I had some Cruzan Single Barrel this past weekend and it was also outstanding. Nothing better than a good rum with a fine cigar. Hmmmmm!!!

Rum......Cigars......Awghhhhh!!!! ( in my best Homer Simpson voice).

Well you know what I'll be having tonight. Thanks Ryan.

Cruzan is what I have at home. Unfortunately, I just went through two, one liter bottles in less than a month - yikes.

I'll buy Zacapa next. I mean, its the shiznit.

A Statement by Luis Ayala, Author of “The Rum Experience, The Complete Rum Reference”

Throughout the decades many rums have claimed to be “Best in the World.” When looking at these claims, it is important to know which competition they won, which category the rum was entered in, how many rums were in the competition and who the judges were. In most cases, the competitions feature only a dozen or less rums and the judges are “food and beverage” experts, not specific rum experts.

Only one competion has focused solely on rums and nothing other than rums: the International Rum Festival (formely “Rum Fest”) has been taste-testing rums from around the world since 1990. As many as 200 rums are gathered and judged every year by rum experts and rum lovers. These judges come from Europe, North, Central and South America, Asia, and the Caribbean Basin, and are people whose business is to know rum. Winning a top award here means far more than winning anywhere else.

Since it’s introduction in Caribbean Week’s International Rum Festival in 1998, Ron Zacapa Centenario has consistently earned 1st place in the Premium Rum Category. In 2002 it was awarded the Platinum Medal in recognition of its historic achievements. Its unmistakable quality has convinced judges time and time again that Ron Zacapa Centenario is unequivocally the “Best in the World.”

So the next time someone tells you their rum is the best in the world, ask them a few questions. Then tell them about Ron Zacapa Centenario. You can’t be the best unless you’ve beaten the best.

Ron Zacapa Centenario has earned it’s place in the history books as a benchmark for super premiums. First Place Winner in the Premium Rum Category at the 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 & 2002 Caribbean Week’s Rum Tasting Competition. A personal favorite, don’t pass up the opportunity to try this rum!

Paste to Google.

PYRAT PLANTERS XO RS 750 Thumbnail · PYRAT PLANTERS XO RS 750. Regular Price: $45.99 ... Sale 19.99

If you haven't tried Pyrat Panters XO, it's probably hi time you did.

I think you should also try El Jimador 100% Agave tequila. "With it's strong and pungent attack this brown tequila has a smooth complexity and moderate agave intensity. Some pepper and a moderate amount of earthy agave come close to being overwhelmed by the huge toasty oak influence in the nose. Though thin to medium in mouth feel, the taste is high sweet oak, with moderate dill, earthy agave, and pepper. It finishes hot with some bitterness and low sweetness. Like bourbon with a fair amount of that earthy agave."

Regular price $109.99 sale price 39.99 or try another tequila, Reformador Blanco, "Colorless, this strong and mellow blanco has smooth complexity and alot of agave intensity. It possesses a subtle nose; with a moderate level of earthy agave, white pepper, citrus, an a hint of anise. A thin to medium mouth feel is low in it's sweetness as well. Flavors are primarliy earthy agave and astringent pepper. It has a hot finish of medium to high bitterness, which tapers off into a long-lasting caramel flavor." Regular $48.99, sale $19.99

It's threads like these that make me want to go out and try what ever it is that is posted. Please keep it fellas. I have a question, I've been interested in trying out that Hot Buttered Rum Recipe posted here a while ago, would you make it with this rum or would it ruin it? If so do you recommend cheap rum for this recipe?

I’m glad you’re interested in making hot buttered rums. The recipe calls for a dark Jamaican rum but any mixing quality dark pot stilled rum will work. The first time I made a hot buttered rum I used Myers Dark Jamaican rum and it wasn’t bad. I now use a blend of rums for my hot buttered rums; half Myers half Prichard’s.

http://www.prichardsdistillery.com/pages/rum.html

I once tried hot buttered rum with Appleton Estate Extra which is a very well aged Jamaican Pot stilled rum; it was great but that rum is best left to the snifter.

Even though Zacapa is a VERY dark rum, it was produced using a column still. I’m guessing if you made a hot buttered rum with Zacapa, it would just be a sweet buttery mess. You really need that Jamaican pot still flavor to balance the drink. And the most important thing? UNSALTED BUTTER!

Has anyone tried the new 10 Cane Rum? I've been eyeing that beautiful bottle at my local store, but haven't had the guts to buy it yet...

Yeah, I have a little bottle of the stuff. It's not worth it's high price. Check out Westerhall Esatate from Grenada or any of the other 'true' agricoles from Martinique like La Favorite, Niesson, St. James, Bally if you can find them. I don't have time now to give my review of 10 Cane but I will follow up tomorrow.

Hmm, well, I've just seen it (Ron Zacapa) in nicer liquor stores. If you look for it, you'll see it.

Ron Zacapa Centanario. Cruzan Single Barrel.

Both are smooth enough to give to a baby.
