that's the R model. those things rock. they've got these huge engines made by R-R that are really powerful and really quiet. the older ones make too much freakin' noise.

Brings back memories, back when I was young and a flyboy. Back when the earth's crust was still hardening.

Actually, the engines are produced jointly by GE and SNECMA a france company. The core engine is from the F110 series engine by GE and the turbofan is produced by France. The engine is known as the F-108 or CFM-56. It is absoulutely reliable and will outlast the airframe time before it is due a timechange.

lassiter91, thanks for the correction. i was misinformed by some crew chiefs of the earlier models of the kc-135. i'm quite certain about the noise factor, though. i actually enjoyed watching those take off while i was working on c-130s. they were so quiet compared to precious models and the B-1s that were stationed at Dyess.
