My friend with this thing had to change his sticky, run-flat tires after about 20,000 miles. Stock (Sport pkg.) rims are 18, but I think his are 19". Cost to replace 4 tires? Over 2 grand.

Sounds like he got ripped off on the tire purchase.

Now this is a fine machine. 4.5 liter kickin' out some BOOYAH!!

IMO the 5 series should start off with the 540. The car is bigger and heavier than the 3 series, therefore, in my mind it warrants a bigger power plant.

Sweet!

IRT post 9 - Michelin tires for this car would be $304 each... 93Y rated. 245/35/19

If he went with Pirelli or something of that sort, I could see coming close to $2,000.

*shrug*

I think they may have been Pirellis. Are the Michelins you speak of Run-Flats?

http://www.autoweek.com/article.cms?articleId=103215

"MAINTENANCE: Replace one Bridgestone Potenza run-flat tire, $429.62"

This article was probably referring to stock 17 or 18" rims so after installation of the 19s and tax and road hazard, it's prolly up around 5 bills a piece.

This friend of mine is a lawer. He's had a good coupla' years. He used to be a bar patron of mine and he could out lawer-joke me anyday. And that's something a little somethin'.

Here's one of his...

"What happens when you give a lawer Viagra?"

"He gets taller."

Michelins are for the most part more $$$ than Pirelli.

I just bought tires and got Pirellis P6's for much cheaper than I could get the comparable Michelins.

BeatDragon, you bought P6s for THAT?!!! What are you packin' under that hood of yours, like 40 ponies?

Right now I'm wishin' I had a pile like that. Instead I have to envy yours. I'm scheduled to get a new, used car soon, though. The model year might even come close to the millenium. Somedayyyyyy my Bimmer will come.

40 very speedy ponies...

It may not be all that quick off the get go but its like a 2 stroke, once it hits the 3rd gear power band that lil blow dryer kicks in purty hard and zooooooom...

I have had it to about 110+ On Hwy 1 (comin to Paradise no less) it it had PLENTY left.

I'm just glad you didn't do that driving AWAY from Paradise. We'd both be in trouble.
