Awesome!

B-24 and B-29. The picture is really intersting due to the angle and perspective at which it was taken. In it the B-29 looks to be half the size of the B-24 when in reality it is exactly the other way.

It's too bad there are so few of these beauties left.

Those are all great, and it is sad to think about the way we just destroyed most of them after WWII

I stood next to "FIFI" in Milwaukee when she fired up her Cyclones.....what an experience! Nothing quite like hearing the big radials cough to life. It seemed like it took 5 minutes to warm up to a smooth idle. I believe the superchargers had been removed to save fuel. Speaking of superchargers...I interview with General Electric Energy tomorrow afternoon. For an engineer, that is like trying out for the World Cup soccer team. (Sorry for the thread jack)

I have to agree with ducati . . . those engines coming to life is an awesome sound. I had the pleasure a couple of weeks ago of watching a B-17 and a B-24 start up and then take off. Good Luck with the interview, ducati . . . Thanks for sharing, markjenkins . . .

Can they even get those beasts into the air without superchargers?

I believe the superchargers are only needed for extreme altitude. Extreme for the early forties, anyway.
