regarding my request on tuck's heaven thread wanting his credentials on his theological education...which he brought up........in case you care where i'm coming from

1) he brought it up along with his 40 years of biblical study. he brought it up AS A CREDENTIAL. i was asking for elaboration. he hasn't had a chance to respond...i'm sure he has no problem with answering the question or he wouldn't have opened the door...tuck might be several things that some of us don't like...but he's not bashful nor do i have any indication he's untruthful

2) talking bible/theology is serious business...i think that has been shown on this forum many times not to mention many of our personal experiences. he says that what he wrote has found its way into church use. i think that those who come across that information have a right, should they wish, to know the background of the author. it has bearing....there is no way it doesn't.

3) why is it many people are ok with folks talking scripture and theology and stuff from an authoritative point of view without asking what authority they have? would we trust a person about science without credentials? would we vote for a politician without credentials (ok, bad reference). Tuck has expressed authority here before (told me i studied without understanding...that's a statement from authority)

i'm not bashing tuck by this thread. you can find plenty of that on other threads where i pull no punches on tuck. just posting my rationale for asking for his credentials

but what do i know?

as i was posting this thread, tuck responded

"My credentials - I'd rather not answer this, for this reason . . . if I name the university, the denominational identification will immediately be made. This could influence thinking. Although I was educated in a major protestant institution, I like to think my 40 years since has been very independent, and I don't want to color people's thinking. "

============================

you are correct...it will and should influence thinking. and if knowing where you are coming from shuts off someone's thinking (and i know you know that it happens) that is on them, is it not? i think you should trust your audience enough to be forthright. but i realize this is a cigar forum and not a theological publication, so the call is yours.

Where was I rude to you on that other thread? Paste it so I can read it. You called me an ass. Show me why.

Billy, I don't feel bashed. I still think I will decline for the reason I posted, and because I'm not asking anybody to buy my answers, just posting for fun. But I notice no one (that I've noticed) has ever asked the good doctor/nurse where he earned a doctorate, even though he continues to pose as an expert on just about everything. And I'm not asking him to, don't care.

tuck

to be fair, if i had interest in what he was speaking authoritatively on, i would have asked him his credentials

I got my education from Cameron University, The University of Oklahoma, and The University of Surrey at Roehampton.

I held a 4.26 GPA at Cameron, a 3.92 at OU, and I passed my research at Surrey.

Well, that's my credentials.......

Now I've got a license to learn I suppose.....

my point is/was what does it matter?

if he is using the Bible as reference then i can check/prove him myself and need no credintials

besides look at the subject whe are speaking on.....there is not much debate on that.....

now ask the question on "how you get to heaven" and the debate begins.......

if it doesn't matter to you, that's up to you. reasons it would matter to me won't sway you...and not saying they should

i just like to know more about a person than what's on the page...that's why biblical commentators (responsible scholars) ALWAYS have some section on authorship, setting, background, etc. when they write commentaries.

And i believe even picking which scriptures answer what questions is a form of interpretation. that's me. might not be you.

"section on authorship, setting, background, etc. when they write commentaries."

i meant authorship of the book of the bible...it often has bearing on interpretation

and usually there is even something on who the author of the commentary is. again, to shed light on where the interpretation is coming from

Adroomi, seriously what was the scale where you recieved the 4.26 GPA? This is not meant to be derogatory but i went to Penn State and had a 3.65 out of a 4. But 4 was as high as you could get.I am just curious.

Jack,

This is not a cumulative score, but the total based upon a point scale....for example:

Most schools will then round down to a cap of only 4.0 on a cumulative scale for grading purposes. An "A+" so to speak is equal to a 4.33. Your cumulative scores may have been higher or lower, but you can find both on your transcripts. Each school is different, but the 6 big accrediting agencies in the USA all agree to a cap of 4.0.

Buy ther way. This just occured to me. What if people would have asked Christ for his credentials. How would he have answered.
billyjackson

they did...and he was crucified cause people didn't accept them

i'm sure tuck won't take offense if we fail to equate him with christ and his credentials

take it easy hog

no one's crucifying tuck. my call for his credentials was based on him bringing them up in the first place

and if your reply is about adroomi on the other thread, that's what him and tuck do...it might be bloodshed, but it ain't crucifixion

and even if tuck was getting crucified, linking it to jesus is a bit of stretch
