For Thanksgiving I took my family to my inlaws. It was a perfect day. Except for the ride in.

Leaving Cape Cod, we drove through the rotary (traffic circle) at the Bourne Bridge. In the circle stood a woman who looked to be in her late 30's. She held up a sign that read "Impeach Bush".

This wasn't an anti-war, or pro-peace vigil. This was one lonely woman who decided that Thanksgiving Day would be spent holding up a sign with her politcal message.

How pathetic.

And the saddest part of this isn't her own hollow and empty shell of an existance. It's the fact that she likely represents many other sorry souls.

March for peace. Ask for answers. Demand justice. Question that which is misunderstood.

But to simply make an unsupported stance on a day designed for thanks?

I guess if my life were that empty, I might blame the president as well.

Then again, I probably wouldn't.

" her own hollow and empty shell of an existance "

That quote is perfect . . .

neither one of you have any clue as to why she stood there, but in your childrens minds, you feel the need to denigrate her.

if she was holding a sign that said don't cut and run or stay the course, she would be a hero in your eyes.

how stupidly pathetic you both sound.

by the way, the native americans have their ceremony for this day, and it isn't called thanks anything.

I went through the tollgate on the tollway between Lawton and Oklahoma City about 10 years ago on my scoot. It was pretty darn cold and I had on my rain slicks and a backpack. I was headed to the airport to catch a Western Pacific flight to Colorado Springs to visit family.

I flipped up my visor on my helmet (it was cold, otherwise in those days I'd be "helmetless), and told the lady in the tollbooth "Happy Thanksgiving Ma'am." She gave me a sour look and said "What's so happy about it? I'm stuck working today thanks to this stupid state we live in." I smiled at her and flipped my visor down. As I "tached" it out to redline between gears and made as grand an exit as I could, I thought to myself, "somewhere there's a man who lost his job a few months ago, and won't be serving turkey to his family today...I bet he'd like to have her job."

I remember that day like it was yesterday.......

Hey Rick,

maybe you can go to that rotary and help the lady with her sign?

Happy Thanksgiving anyway!

Its a beautiful country we live in when this person is able to stand there with a sign that says ANYTHING without risking prosecution.

I'm thankful for that.

First I'd like to thank tailgater for reminding me of Cape Cod and that rotary at the end of the Bourne Bridge. I had a great summer vacation at the Cape with friends there a few years back.

Secondly I want to second what Ryan said.

Finally Rick posts on a topic on which he has great experience, and one on which he can offer sage advice on doing. Listen up boys, you won’t see this again for years.

For that I am thankful, as I never thought i'd see the day.

It would be sad to me regardless of what her sign said.

It's unlikely that a right wing nut would spend their thanksgiving standing with a sign. Most right wing nuts have not turned their political activism into their religion like the left wing nuts have.

But hey, if it works for you Rick, enjoy.

So anyone taking a position or holding a sign I disagree with is\has a "hollow and empty shell of an existance?"

No room for disagreement eh?

I'm with ryan on this....

Hey rug -

I'm sure planned parenthood or the abortion clinics that get protested, bombed or shot at would disagree with this:

"Most right wing nuts have not turned their political activism into their religion like the left wing nuts have."

And yes I am anti abortion and support their right to protest as well.....

Lot of clinic bombing going on?

What her sign said isn't the point. The original post even differentiated between standing alone with a sign(pathetic) and being part of a group protest on thanksgiving.

Standing on the side of the road with a sign that said "save the whales" would be pathetic on thanksgiving.

Being judgemental of someone you don't know is the point.

Maybe they could care less about thanksgiving, maybe thanksgiving is so important to them that they chose this day to make a point they care deeply about (read depth.... oposite of hollow\shallow).

Just because they view the day differently than you (and I) does not mean they are shallow or even wrong. I have no clue who or what this person is or why they do it....thats the point.

And the left and right both have their zealots (sometimes crazies). As for bombings Eric Robert Rudolph comes to mind. It may not be common but its there.

You can't point at one from the left and say look they do that all the time without allowing someone to point at one on the right and saying the same thing. Wrong in both instances.

TW, are you really going to argue that the extreme left and extreme right are equally into their protesting? At every major left wing protest there is a counter demonstration a fraction of the size. People like Maven like to think these numbers prove they are right. All the numbers prove is more lefties show up for protests. I have gone to see republican candidates speak. I have never gone to protest a democrat speaker.

"All the numbers prove is more lefties show up for protests"

Thats because the other people have jobs and chose to support their families rather then pose for photo ops for their cause

Rug - I have (protested/heckled) the left....its been awhile but it did carry certain gratification.

Yes - I've said in here before I beleive politics is a circle.

You start in the middle (top of the circle), some head left, some head right. If you go far enough in either extreme you meet at the bottom of the circle. More similar than different.

I saw plenty of hecklers\protesters of slick willie when I was in Iowa.

Come to Kansas some time, I'll introduce you to some of the finest right winger's you'll ever meet.... they'll protest anything they consider contrary to their political/religous beleifs.

I may come off harder on the conservatives at times because I am one of them.

I don't care what the wackos on the other side of the ilse do because its the wackos on my side of the isle that trivialise and dilute my belefs at times.
