I love the winter season as it brings out some excellent winter/fest beers:

Feel free to share your favorites here:

My favorites are: (alcohol pct)

1. JUBELALE from Deschutes Brewery, BEND, OR (6.7%)

2. WINTER BOCK from Gordon Biersch - Seattle (?)

3. SAMUEL SMITH'S WINTER WELCOME ALE - England (7%?)

4. SNOW CAP ALE from Pyramid (7%)

5. CELEBRATOR DOPPELBOCK from Ayinger, Bavaria (comes with an odd goat pendant hanging from the bottle) (7%)

Happy Herfing Holidays!

True, true. The bocks are definitely a good winter brew. Just got a dopplebock kit for my brother-in-law for Christmas (he does his own homebrewing, but hasn't gotten into experimentation of formulas, yet).

I imagine Homebrew probably has lots of good things to say on this topic!

I'd like to try my hand at homebrewing when I return to Oregon. We used to live next to a town in Oregon called "Hopmere" where they obviously grow hops but I never had the time to devote to the process. Now that I'm retiring from USN I hope to give it a go.

JackC,

I've had John Courage, very nice but never had Young's. What do they brew?

Young's Double Chocolate Ale and Oatmeal Stot are the big sellers but the Winter brews are randomly produced.

I'll have to check my local store for those. They carry some pretty exotic selections. Thanks.

To complement the domestics, we had a 16-gallon keg of Pyramid Snow Cap at my wedding last month.

Needless to say, it was a festive occasion.

Heh.
