I have a 1995 Nissan P/U that I have been thinking about customizing a bit. New bucket seats to replace the bench, new carpet, paint job and an engine rebuild to make it a bit more powerful.

My question is... at 150k, if I rebuild the engine, should I do the tranny too?

Both the engine and tranny work fine, I still drive it, but I figured if I do the engine and not the tranny... it'll probably die soon after, no?

That is a lot of milage MAC. But some do go a long way. What I'd do is this. Pull the pan off. A small amount of metal on the magnet is normal. You dont want to see clutch flakes or brown fluid either. If you see any of those things, just rebuild it.

If it looks clean and you do the motor, run it. Just change the filter and the pan gasket. Then put in a front and rear seal. You dont want to pull it out later for a front leak. Sometimes just disturbing the area can start a leak on older cars.

That's what I'd do if I were you. If you need more advise, no problem!

Thanks bro. That truck has been taken care of religiously. I have changed the tranny fluid once a year since I owned it. The only time I ever got flakes of metal on the magnet was when I changed the fluid the first time. Normal break-in stuff.

The fluid in there is still bright red.

Go with it. Just do the things I mentioned.
