This is an offshoot on ddanddb's thread about smoking inside or outside. If I'm going to smoke at home during winter, its going to require a space heater in my garage.

Any feedback on space heaters that throw a decent amount of heat for under $100?

Thanks.

The portable space heaters I kept finding weren't good for outside a cubicle. I found a small electric radiator that's filled with oil for well under $100 at either Home Depot or Lowes last year.

The thing works great keeping a 15 x 18 room with an A-frame cieling very toasty.

I'd highly recommend it or something like it to fit the size of the area your heating.

Eight - Check into a "ceramic" heater. Those little boogers are incredibly efficient. You'll look at 'em and say that little thing couldn't do much, but it's new technology and they throw much more heat per size than you can imagine. And they're not too expensive. Wally World usually has good deals on them. Stay warm and good smoking. Tuck

Menard's has radiant heaters that look like a 25" flat panel T.V. they heat the things in your garage not the air. They claim to be more efficient and fast. I am thinking about won of these for my smoking room. The one I looked at was 69$. Cheaper then a good snowmobile suit.

Get a can of propane and a heating unit that screws on top of it. Those suckers put out some serious heat, and right now.

Rug is right -- get a radiant heater of some kind. Heats you up directly if you're sitting in front of it. Much quicker and more efficient than trying to heat all the air in the garage to a comfy temp.

Pablo: do you know what a "space heater" is? I dunno either. Sounds like something from NASA...

I agree with Thom. I've got one of those propane set ups. It's just a small device that clamps direct to the tank. It throws off a good amount of heat and there's no odor. I've also got a small kerosene heater but it does has abit of an odor when first lit and when it is shut off. Otherwise the kerosene heater is also good.

The up side of the propane heater is that the tank will last for quite awhile and it heats up fast. My kerosene burns for about 12-14 hours on a gallon of fuel. It take awhile for it to warm up. So I end up having to fill the tank about every other week. It's a little messy and since I don't want to spill kerosene inside, I have to stand out in the cold to fill the tank. I'm not sure about the overall operating cost per hour of heat.

I just get a Dyno-Glo, torpedo heater. It's adjustable from 35,000 - 50,000 BTU's and connects to a standard 20 lb. propane tank. I found my on Ebay for $90 with shipping. It uses one pound of propane an hour on the lowest setting. It's "contious spark" and is a bit nousy but not loud. I have a two car unisulated garage and it heats up in about 15 minutes. And that was when it was 5 degrees outside. Very nice and save unit.
