I received a CD in the mail yesterday; Mobb Deep songs mixed over Bob Marley instrumentals.

It could be good cigar smoking music.

There is another amazing dub record by Bill Laswell in '97 that was just totally tripped-out Marley instrumentals called Dream of Freedom.

check it:

i never heard of mobb deep so i did a little research. i found a place where i could download a little sample of their music. i can listen to bob marley when the mood strikes me. there is no mood where i feel i can listen to mobb deep. that was not a pleasant experience. i like to try to give everyone a fair chance. sometimes i get burnt. call it what you want, but that ain't music to me. in fact, i was unable to identify a single instrument in the sample i heard.

painful.

The wifey listens to country/pop and that was painful when I first met her but I do not mind it now.

I own over 1,000 CD's (classic rock, alternative, heavy metal, jazz, rap, techno, classical, spoken word, top 40). I can listen to anything but I understand if your ears are not use to rap.

i actually liked rap a little when i was very young. i started to realize something as i got older. as original as i thought it was, i found that it was getting less and less original as it "progressed." i notice that instruments were becoming more optional. i also noticed that most parts where instruments were recognized were excerpts from other songs. basically, they were taking a successful song and replaying it with some added sounds and talking (rapping). suddenly, instruments disappeared almost completely. it was no longer music (to me). i got really tired of it, really fast. then, it seemed to start a whole new trend in society of incredibly rude people that dressed sloppy and spoke even more so. i'm not trying to knock a "black" culture as this cultural change was distributed among the black, white, and hispanic races. it's a hip hop culture that i don't really care for. from the outside it seems violent, selfish, and just plain rude.

i like music. i like listening to instruments. i appreciate a person that plays an instrument well. i appreciate a person that can write a musical piece that really touches you. i like jazz. i like rock. i like some older country (mostly for nostalgia reasons).
