actually it was Jan 20 1981 when they were relesed

That was the date Reagan took office and the Iranians didn't want to have him pissed at them

"Various allegations concerning a deal between the Reagan kitchen cabinet and Iran in order to delay the release of the hostages have been made over the years, although Senate and House investigations in the 1990s concerning this October surprise conspiracy could find no evidence of these claims. In any case, the hostages were released twenty minutes after Reagan's inaugural address."

Exactly.

The start of the hostage crisis and screwed up rescue attempt was under Carter's watch.

"The Iran hostage crisis (November 4, 1979 - January 20, 1981) was a 444-day period during which student proxies of the new Iranian regime held hostage 66 diplomats and citizens of the United States. It is believed by many to have caused President Jimmy Carter of the United States to lose his re-election attempt, and punctuated the first Islamic revolution of modern times. Various allegations concerning a deal between the Reagan kitchen cabinet and Iran in order to delay the release of the hostages have been made over the years, although Senate and House investigations in the 1990s concerning this October surprise conspiracy could find no evidence of these claims. In any case, the hostages were released twenty minutes after Reagan's inaugural address."

"Allegations persist to this day that the hostage release was purposely delayed until after the election through an illegal arms-deal between Iran and the Reagan kitchen cabinet, which was keen to avoid what they saw as an October Surprise - that is, a pre-election hostage release that would have handed the vote to Carter. The flow of weapons resumed after the Reagan government was in power, attempting to balance Iraqi aggression along the border. These shipment contributed to what would be known as the Iran-Contra affair, and according to conspiracy theorists this deal was a major factor in the release of the American hostages from the embassy."

Oh, the guns for hostages deal, Iran-Contra, and all the cocaine that came in to the USA, that paid for the guns.

I remember them, they were an old vaudeville barefoot tap dancing team.

I tink it was Ghengis Khan who got sick of Woofer and died an old Weazer ... ..., THEN they changed their act to Wooler and Wheeler and finished out the Vaudville years dancing to taps.
