i just saw a pogram about gulf war veterans. i meant program, but something made me type pogram, so i'll leave it that way.

i don't recall WWII vets being screwed by the federal government.

agent orange caused a lot of harm to men sent to war by chicken hawks who avoided the responsibility they inflicted on others. by the time the government said agent orange "might" have caused all the illness involved with it's use, a large percent of the veterans had died or gotten so sick they were incurable.

gulf war syndrome is something i can;t remember any discussion about in the media, but now i hear about lost records, denial of coverage by the VA. and a lot of pundits claiming it was caused by the media mentioning it back then and mass hysteria expanding it.

military suicides have increased .

i was against the iraq war and staying in afganistan is inane, and obama is an idiot to spill more blood to protect a corrupt regime. it didn't matter who became the leader in afganistan he government would still have been corrupt.

there is nothing that can be done to impove the afganisan's lives and there will never be. it's a stone age society.

back to agent orange and gulf war syndrome..

i have not heard anything from the democrats, the republicans, the tea partyers or any elected official discussing this shame we have become.

Personally... I've got no issues with the way I have been treated since returning. I was in the gulf in 02/03 and /04 and in Iraq in 06. No adverse effects from having been there or from receiving the anthrax shots.

Maybe you're not familiar with this, Rick, but some people in this world try to "get over". Looking to collect "disability" for a nonexistent "injury" or "ailment".

When I retired I went to RETAP. Retirement transition assistance program. There was this really, really fat guy from the VA BRAGGING about how he collects his retirement AND disability because of all his physical problems. Most of which would be cured if he LOST SOME EFFING WEIGHT.

It really pissed me off. But hey... if you taxpayers are so concerned about our gulf war veterans, and willing to foot the bill... maybe I'll go back to the VA and complain about something so I can get paid!

C'mon man... you have zero information other than what you "heard". Trust me... there's nothing new here. People will always want something for nothing.

I had three friends die of bone cancer that were in my BN during the first Gulf War, MACS. I have another that has an unexplainable rash that appears over his entire body every 6 months or so. The list of strange ailments that comes out of the first Gulf War, particularly involving front line ground troops and special opns folks is pretty intense. From what I understand not a lot of guys on boats out in the ocean were exposed to the strange crap on the ground that others were. To claim that some guys are looking for attention is probably true. To say it so assured that it is the majority of the cases is irresponsible. Me? Walked away without a scratch....

I could barely fill a 6 oz cup with what you understand. Perhaps you didn't read the part where I was NOT on a ship (boats are those small floating things we have on the side of our ships) and I was actually IN the country of Iraq in 2006?

Whatever. I expect nothing less from you.

FWIW I was agreeing with Nam/agent orange part. I don't think there is enough evidence with the gulf troops, 3 immediate family members spent time in country. Rick I do think its a viable conversation topic though.....

What part of "FIRST GULF WAR" didn't you understand, MACS? You were on the ground about 16 years too late for what I'm talking about here, bro. Don't be so quick to jump down people's throats, dude. A lot of soldiers and marines that were on the ground in the first war came back with some really messed up skin, bone, and general health issues. Can't say much for the Navy and Air Force, but if they were on the ground, I imagine there's a few out there as well.

Clarification: I'm not saying NOBODY got sick... some obviously did. I think more of them are just looking for bennies, though.

^ I think what polesmoker is saying here is the govt has a bad history of denying things and doesn't want fakers to get in the way of folks who need help.

That depends on what you define as "screwed," Rick. If the WWII vets didn't get "screwed," the WWI, Civil War, Revolutionary War, and Vietnal War vets complained they were "screwed."

In fact, after WWI, George Patton had the thankless task of breaking up a WWI vet tent city that they had erected in Washington DC.

You have a very, very poor memory of history RICKAMAVEN, from a guy who claims to be so "worldly."

He'd says tha same thing as MACS (albeit in a far less gay sorta way).

Frankly, Jimmy, given the blatant BS you push around here, it wouldn't surprise me if you were serving meals to staff generals stateside when the lead was flying...

Hey Potts, Rick said he didn't recall the WWII vets getting screwed. You replied with some bs about him personally, but never offered any evidence to the contrary. You rather offered something about WWI. You can't jump around like that. If your teacher in class asked you what 2+2 is, would you tell her 2+5 equals 7? What gives?

So Potts you had a friend that was in the first gulf war, and he didn't get sick. Cool. Neither did I. I mentioned that above. Again, if your teacher asked you who navigated the Mayflower, would your response be "willie wonka drove that funny looking boat on a chocolate river!"

Stop blurting out nonsense in class, lest you get labeled as stupid, boy.
