Way to make a native cry......

There is only ONE mill in Oregon that can process a tree bigger than 14" diameter. Very sad. Men made their living in the woods. Took care of the resourcs as it was their livelihood, greedy men and wacko greenies ruined the source of our states pride. Now were a "tourist" "service industry" and "tech" state that's being ran into the ground.

Spent my boyhood summers in Ft. Bragg, Ca. when the lumber industry was king. There's a section of Redwood tree up there too with a history lesson outlined on it's rings. Amazing. There was a tour of the lumber mill and I'll never forget seeing a section of tree spinning on a machine while it was blasted by a huge water hose which ripped of the bark. Yikes.

Great old picture, but not that big a redwood.

If you can ever get to see the Calaveras Big trees by all means do so.

I'd be pissed if my saw broke while I was only half way done cutting it!

I was just wondering how many violations OSHA and the EPA would come up with had they audited this worksite...

I worked for Iron Triangle when I was in HS. We ran 45 one log loads out of Bear Valley in 83. John Day and Prarie City were both still running big wood.

The mills were re-tooled about 15 years ago.
