Weighty Issue

This debt-ceiling debate reminds me of an obese man who for 20 years gained one pound a year and went from 180 pounds to 200 pounds. Then he got really hungry and increased his food intake and gained 50 pounds for each of the next two years. At 300 pounds, it is now time to say he is obese, to improve his health, he should start to lose weight.

The Democratic doctor recommends reducing his gain to only 25 pounds a year, so that in two more years, he'll weigh only 350 pounds instead of 400 pounds under his current eating plan.

The Republican doctor recommends stopping the gains and reducing his eating so that he loses 10 pounds a year. Then in 10 years he'll be back to his healthy 200 pound weight.

Which doctor would you vote for?

I'm voting for the one who promises me I can eat all the Burger King I want and the guy down the street will take on my extra pounds.

What you didn't mention is that the republican doctor wants the patient to stop eating entirely to achieve his weight loss and buy fireworks with the money he saves not buying food.

"If the US Government was a family, they would be making $58,000 a year, yet they spend $75,000 a year, and have $327,000 in credit card debt. They are currently proposing BIG spending cuts to reduce their spending to $72,000 a year. These are the actual proportions of the federal budget and debt, reduced to a level that we can understand." - Dave Ramsey

I'm starting to think that maybe the U.S. is being intentionally bankrupted.

I know...I know...go ahead and call me a conspiracy theorist and tell me to put my tin foil hat back on.

But seriously...14 trillion in debt, and plans for even more debt? Makes me think there's possibly some kind of sinister agenda behind the whole thing.

Our nation's total unfunded liabilities are actually an eye-popping $115 trillion.

We're gonna have to kick an awful lot of grannies out into the snow to pay that debt off.

Why credit card debt? I don't think the debt is at a 20% interest rate.

More like a $327,000 mortgage and car loan... which is still too big for a family making $58,000, but not as shocking as the thought of that much credit card debt.

He used the credit card because it's revolving.

Your mortgage or car loan are static. You know the price going in and make the payment. With the credit card they'll still let you spend and spend and spend.
