WASHINGTON -- Gun control advocates are pressuring Congress to derail a bill that would facilitate what they see as a "race to the bottom" in terms of state-based concealed weapons legislation.

On Wednesday, Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker, a member of the coalition Mayors Against Illegal Guns, released a video calling the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, which would require states that allow concealed carrying of guns to recognize each other's permits, an "insane" policy that puts civilians and police officers "at risk."

The way I see it, visiting in Newark, NJ - or any one of a couple dozen other metropolitan areas in the USA - without a firearm is in itself an act of insanity.

Same with my soon to be home state of NC. Many, many states honor the CCW permits of other states. Problem is, if I where to travel back to Jersey to visit my parents, my weapon would be illegal for the 10 minutes I was in Maryland, and would have to be locked away the moment I entered Jersey, the one state in the whole trip where I would really require it.

No different then with driver licenses. What if your Florida driver license was only honored by some of the States? Oh, and before you start complaining that we’re comparing apples to oranges, ask yourself which is more deadly. A upstanding, law abiding citizen, who has passed background checks, training, and licensing to carry a weapon purely for self defense, or a 17 year old kid with a crisp new driver’s license piloting 2,000 lbs. of steel down a Florida highway at 70+ mph?


BTW, here's a map of where you, as a law abiding, licensed Florida permit holder, could legally carry your weapon. The red states are the ones you'd be a criminal in. Below the map is a listing of all the other states that Florida currently honors.

Not strange at all. I wasn't espousing legal position. Lawyers pretty much really only know the real law in their areas of expertise. We pretty much can look-up anything and act/use it, but that is about it. No human alive could possibly know all the law in any state.

Speaking of gun control being a 'state's right' - isn't it ironic that the ability to restrict or ban altogether gun ownership within their jurisdictions is one of the very few 'state's rights' issues that liberals passionately support...
