A discusting add, if you ask me.

A discusting business of taking free donated organs, eyes, longbones, and hip bones from unsuspecting donors families, at thier worst time, and making a fortune in the business of reselling much of them for research purposes, nose jobs and the like. Liars even market the idea that it won't effect the way you look at your funeral. Ask your local funeral provider for the truth in private.

They use her body to sell your body. Pimps that they are.

End of rant.

Neither.

It is against the profiteering off of donated organs, longbones, eyes, skin etc.

It is against the massive infrastructure built around organ procurement agencies, and the high salaries of such practitioners. You see, they cannot legally show a profit. What they do is build offices and harvesting sites of their own, instead of harvesting organs at hospitals. They hire large staffs of well paid individuals to staff these facilities. Thereby increasing the price of harvested tissues. They do sell these organs and tissues that were donated, you know?

It is against the lies portrayed by this industry, to market their business.

It is against the unnecessary mutilation of the remains of deceased human beings.

It is also against the disgusting adds such as this one.

The only scenario in which some internal organs can be used to transplant into a live recipient, is in the case of a closed head fatal injury to the donor. In which case He/She is kept alive on life support during harvesting of said internal organs. In this case it is a wonderful gift to give someone a chance at life. This is not the common scenario in which organs, long bones, eyes, hips, skin, etc. are harvested and sold.

You're losing me here.

A friend of mine has a new liver.

Are you suggesting that he shouldn't have it because someone may have made a profit?

Why are we anti-profit when a lot of good can come from harvesting organs?

I don't claim to know the details, and I very well may be missing something here. I've never heard of this even being an issue.

But I don't see the big deal and your post above does nothing to dissuade that opinion.

Let's forget the rhetoric about profiteering and infrastructure and get to the nitty gritty: Why is it so bad for a company to market organ donation/harvesting?

How are they lying?

Who is being harmed by their actions?

You've got my attention. Let's hear it.

In hindsight, I should have limited my postings to my thoughts as to the distastefulness of the ad campaign. My bad. It's not as if I haven't seen examples of drunk postings gone wrong before. Well now that I've stepped in it, I guess I'll attempt to clarify my thoughts.

The business of organ procurement agencies is one riddled with waste, and high operating costs. These business operate as non profit agencies, without competition in each state. The infrastructure that is built around them, in my opinion, is driving up the costs to harvest and distribute the donated organs and tissues exponentially. Why does this concern me? Because it is my belief that they are a good example of what is wrong with health care in this country. Who pays for most of the organs and tissues when they are ultimately transplanted, and the patient gets the bill? Insurance companies, Medicare, Medicaid. I.e. You, Me, and the American taxpayer.

It would be unprofessional on my part, to further elaborate on my thoughts about the unnecessary mutilation of, the deceased, who's families so generously donated. This may not bother some folks, the same way I'm effected by it. I'll admit, I'm biased on this subject. This has a bit to do with my general dislike of these agencies, and their marketing slogans and such. I feel as if the marketing is misleading. Folks are told that the donation process will have no bearing on the way they will look for their funeral. Let's just say, I know a "guy" in the business, that says this isn't exactly the truth.

Your friend has a new liver. Great! I hope and pray that it can last a lifetime, and extend his/her life to the fullest.

I hope that I didn't come off as being against the whole idea of organ donation, as that was not the point of my rant, and I'm very much in favor of donation. I'm not anti-profit either, much the opposite is true, actually. I hope this post helps to clarify my thoughts. I don't care to comment much further on the subject, as to not get myself an any hot water. I hope I've not already done that. No more drunk posting for the rest of the week.
